"One 21-year-old defensive end took 537 hits to the head during a season of football games and practices at the University of North Carolina."
All these concussion-based changing of rules, are all a band aid measure in solving the bigger picture. This rule-change is only cutting down on ONE variable of concussion amongst a possible 1000+ others. Changing of equipment (helmets and pads) is the only answer, nothing else will suffice. Meanwhile, the game suffers and I highly doubt with the latest $100 million grant for a decade-long study of the players health, will result in the NFL taking off those band aids once they do find the best possible solution. It'll be a case of going too far forward, and not wanting to go back. It's a shame it took a player's death, for them to take this shyt seriously before they put anything worthwhile into practice.
We could've already had better helmets/pads by now without having a large amount of these rule changes.
