"Manufactured" would be a better word.
Ahh, ok. I'd consider it manufactured if the FG was something they added to the game after the fact. But since FG's started as being more valuable than TD's I can't really say it's manufactured. It's just a part of the game. :yeshrug:

Weren't kickers at least actual players back then? Passing has been part of the game but it's impact has clearly been manufactured by rules changes. I say the drama that kicking provides is manufactured because of how different it is from the rest of the game. You got guys risking life and limb and battling up and down the field only to have a game decided by some scrawny dude that would not see the field otherwise. Sure it's exciting but it doesn't seem like it really proves who is best at moving the ball down the field and stopping the ball. If you decided an NBA game on FTs by a designated FT shooter it would be exciting and a part of the game, but still clearly manufactured drama.

I agree. I wouldn't be mad if they eliminated place kicking altogether. You either score a TD, go for it on 4th, or punt. But people love the fake drama that kicks provide :manny:.

most teams will just punt on anything longer than 4 yards to go or so.
it will pressure offenses more to attempt a TD inside a redzone, which could be a good thing.

unless safety or missed XP all scoring will be in multiple of 7.

and a lot of games will go on a lot longer without FGs. a tied game with 2 mins to go is almost guaranteed to go to OT under these rules.

it will favor defenses immensely as well as prolific offenses. first- good, second- not so good :lolbron:

people talk about kickers shouldn't influence the game that much, um how about the main 22 do their jobs and stop allowing it to come down to kicks. offense needs to score, defense needs to stop people short of FG distance or force a turnover...if they're going to keep extra points and FG's, then stop making the kicker even more critical by making it harder for them to get the job done

What if they kept the goalpost the same but required the head coach to be the holder on field goals? He can't wear any protective gear other than his headset but would be allowed to be a ball carrier on a broken play.

That way, going for a field goal wouldn't be taking the p*ssy way out.

You know a sport is boring when every year they have to make huge changes in the rules.
