From what I'm reading, Tags is saying while the players did engage in "conduct detrimental" (bounties), the evidence involved was so contaminated by the Saints organization that there was no legal justification to suspend the players. Fines yes, suspensions no.

so why payton still suspended then?

Yes. All non-players involved got sufficient punishments.

This was the league plan B when Vilmas appealed started picking up steam and their "investigation" was from a coach that got fired. Of course they made the decision with 2 games left. They still sabotaged the Saints season. Goodell couldn't renege on his harsh punishment. It was all damage control once the facts got out.

Well good to see justice was served, I for one thought they were guilty, but I guess I was wrong.

I wonder if the coaches are going to challenge/file suits against the NFL now too, even though Williams admitted his wrongdoing.
