Actually, this is a common misconception. Ron Rivera was interviewed prior to Mike Tomlin, thus fulfilling the Rooney Rule requirement.

Again- Tomlin WAS NOT a "Rooney Rule" hire.

Understood, but do you think Tomlin gets a look from Pittsburgh without the Rooney rule?

I think Pittsburgh actually did a coaching search, they actually did it the way they were supposed to instead of just saying "minority interviewed check" and then moved on. They had individuals that they interviewed and Tomlin was on the list, he was at the bottom but he was there and he aced it to the point where they had little choice but to hire him.

If I remember correctly everyone thought either Wisenhunt or Grimm was going to get the job and then out of nowhere Tomlin got it. I feel like the rule helped him because they decided to interview more than one minority because that's what the rule was made for, to give others a chance that normally wouldn't. Just m opinion
