Aside from dudes who get fukked over by their money grubbing families its tough to have much sympathy...(fukk the owners all day tho obviously)

You gotta handle your business. It's as simple as that.

It doesn't make sense how bad that NFLPA gets hoed time and time again.

Even if the players did save money, the career for most NFL guys is so short that it's tough to potentially give up a year of salary for ANY reason, even if it's a good one.

NFLPA can only be as strong as the players within it. the players keep conceding and won't stand pat, so the union reps have no choice but to give in. :manny:
Exactly

People shyt on the union but I've gotta assume it's a lot easier to rally and prepare 750+ active players (MLB)/ 420+ active players (NBA), as opposed to the 1,700+ the NFLPA represents. I remember Bart Scott talking about how two years prior to the lockout he was trying to tell younger players to save up and prepare, but it's just a lot easier said than done.

More than 20% of active players live paycheck to paycheck. Combine that with shorter careers (try convincing a 25 year old to throw away a year of his prime earnings) and not having an outlet overseas kills most of their leverage.

You're in a line of work where the average career lasts 4 years at best.

That's enough reason to save your money.

exactly one of my homeboys claim to fame is being on the preseason team for 2 seasons...shyt if he could do it all again he even says he would of actually paid more attention in school and saved those checks he got before he was cut.

"In 2009, we were faced with a major sort of signal that the owners were going to try and lock players out,” Atallah said. “We were trying to get as many players prepared as possible."

The 2011 lockout ended after 132 days, and most have since declared the NFL the big winners in the negotiation. With another labor dispute on the horizon, the NFLPA is trying to proactively teach the values of money management so it has more leverage for a longer fight.

"We need players of every generation to really help the young guys understand what it takes to go through some 'labor strife,'" he said. “For the players who went through it in 2011, the union administration and player leadership did everything it could to prepare players across the league. I think it needs to happen again with the same sort of fervor."

If players heed that warning and fill their doomsday supplies, it could mean we’re in for a big fight in 2021 between the NFLPA and NFL. If players don’t, they’ll likely be on the losing end of the collective bargaining agreement once again.

WOAT players union :skip:
It's not on the union it's on the PLAYERS!!

MSNBC reports that according to financial experts familiar with the NFL, about 380 of the league’s 1,700 players live paycheck to paycheck. This is despite the fact that the average NFL player salary for the 2010 season was $1.87 million. But considering that the NFL rookie minimum salary is $320,000, that average is skewed heavily because of a few superstars. Most rank-and-file NFL players, who earn in the low six figures after paying taxes and their agents, could be in serious financial trouble.

Poor personal finance leaves NFL players at a loss during lockout

Handegg has easily the worst union in all of sports. It's pretty pathetic considering their earning power.
