I'd imagine the parity in Hockey is at least a little bit responsible. Who wants to watch a team tank away?

The Empire State
1. nhl tickets are much much much cheaper than nba in most cities
2. example there may be only 25,000 tampa bay lighting fans in the whole state of florida but 16-18k of them will go to games,
More impressive: The NHL traditionally has higher ticket prices than the NBA. For example, in the 2012-13 season the NHL had an average ticket price of $61.01 which topped that of the NBA ($50.99) according to Team Marketing Report. (And that was in a year with a lockout for the NHL.)

Throughout the 2013-14 season, 15 NHL markets have averaged at least 100 percent capacity in their home stands: The Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks and Winnipeg Jets.

5 are cdn teams
winnipeg jets arena only seats 15k

chicago, boston, philly , new york rangers are big markets that always do well.

i said in most cities

7 cdn teams have high ticket prices because they are always sold out

you can go to many nhl games for little of nothing

funny how the article doesnt bring up pittsburgh penguins almost bankrupt like 7 years ago

or how phoenix coyotes was sold for like 120 million dollars
or atlanta thrashers having to move to winnipeg

or nhl franchises on average are not een worth half of the lowest valuable nba franchise
or the tiny tv deal they have with nbc

Original 6 and Philadelphia, Dallas, etc fluctuate the numbers. In Phoenix you can get front row seats to Coyotes games for less then 10 dollars.

breh in the past 3 yeasr

atlanta would have gone bankrupt if they wren sold to chipman
new jersey devils almost bankrupt
phoenix coyotes couldt find a owner
dallas stars almost went bankrupt

thats 4 teams right there

tampa n florida tickets are dirt cheap

buffalo tickets dirt cheap

i love the nhl but its a joke

its like saying college football has a higher attendance than the nfl which many teams do, alabama always sells out while a team like buffalo bills doesnt

I'm saying, NHL is always on a bubble, and then it locks out. Maybe that's why they have no traction.

NHL is so much more watchable in person than it is on TV, compared to the NBA and watching it at the bar. Also Canadian teams are responsible for the majority of the games being sold out. Canadians and Leafs are like the Yankees and Red soxs of the NHL except without the actual winning :russ:

5/7 tams mentioned for sellouts are canadians

the only other 2 are the ottawa senators with a arena in the middle of nowhere, and the garbage deadmonton oilers

btw the 7 cdn teams make up 40% of all nhl revenue :youngsabo:
