One of my boys and I were talking about holidays coming up and Valentines day was right around the corner. I said "fukk that shyt... Haven't had a valentine since high school." He was like "I'll be your valentine " This was 3-4 years ago... So Valentine's day comes and I'm at work, they call my room to tell me there's a gift for me in the office, dozen of roses and 3 boxes of different chocolates. I figured his sister helped him pick it cuz she'd call me asking me random questions n shyt lol. I got the gift around 10 and he knew my lunch break would be around 11:15 so he picked me up and we went to lunch.

He wasn't even my boyfriend, just my valentine.... I thought that was sooooooo SWEEEEEET!

Oh yeah if nicest also means a guy helping me with car issues in the winter, rental issues, n other miner problems where the guy goes out of his way and sticks around 2-3 more hours to make sure I'm alright.

It didn't end well, for me

Learned a good lesson, but, it took my frail heart/feelings, a minute to get over her

She wasn't a bad person, but, I read her all wrong and wasn't aggressive (in terms of progressing from the "talking" stage)

had an ex-girlfriend who was suicidal and suffered from depression. put her in contact with a suicide hotline, notified a support group and had them contact her, intervened when she had beef with a crazy roommate who basically threatened to kill her, stayed with her on the phone whenever she had one of her "episodes"

did all of this after we broke up and I wasn't even hitting it

the day I finally realized that all the I was doing was never gonna help her and I decided to cut all contact from her was an incredible day. removed a lot of unnecessary stress and drama from my life

A part of it was me doing something nice for her. But a huge part of it was the fact that she didn't have any type of relationship with her parents (her father died, she had a terrible relationship with her mother) so I was really all she had at that time. I genuinely believed she would've offed herself if I wasn't there to help her which is why I stuck around because I didn't think I could deal with the guilt if she ended up killing herself. I realized though she was sick and I wasn't a professional, so there really wasn't anything I could do to help her besides put her in touch with the right people.

Cutting her off was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I had to do it for my own well-being. At that point everything I was doing for her was draining and felt like a burden. don't know if you've ever dealt with a depressed person but if you get to the point where that person is codependent on you, shyt effects you mentally. you end up getting depressed yourself just by getting caught up in their depression.
