Personally, there's nothing that would ever make me bleach my skin or anything like that (not just cause I'm a guy but dark skinned black guys do it do...word to Sammy Sosa). Why the hell would I EVER want to look like the people that opressed us? Why the hell would I want to look like the people that killed us mercillessly and manipulated society to the point where people of color with stronger genetics and features would just want to look like their genetically weaker counterparts?

As a Jamaican and a Nigerian, I can wholeheartedly say that this bleaching epidemic has been picking up steam over the years.

The cases ITT aren't even the worst because these people have the money to bleach their skin tones evenly. The tragic cases are when the average women are doing it and end up with with light faces and hands like Noob Saibot.

Since black people are such good entertainers, and generally natural charismatic, we need to control our own media. If we had and controlled our own TV shows, movies, etc., that showed dark as being good, that would put an end to part of the problem.

I'm Jamaican and I can cosign this. Jamaican artists from back in the 90's was making songs against bleaching



I remember being in Jamaica when this came out. I was like 10 and didn't really understand it, but now I'm like whenever I think about it.

Since black people are such good entertainers, and generally natural charismatic, we need to control our own media. If we had and controlled our own TV shows, movies, etc., that showed dark as being good, that would put an end to part of the problem.

We do have some control and ownership (Tyler Perry Studios, OWN Network, Revolt), but there first needs to be a consciousness shift. Sadly we view each other through the eyes of white folks and a lot of us really view dark skin as being a negative.

We really need to be psychologically debriefed of the effects of slavery and white supremacy, but I think too many of us don't want to admit that we've been negatively affected by it so we act like it doesn't exist.

What a lot of people don't realize is that most African countries didn't get their independence until the 50s-60s. While we were over here fighting for the right to vote and end segregation, they were over their fighting from freedom from colonialism.

Africans, just like blacks in the west, have suffered under the same system of white supremacy.
