Why would there be sanctions put on Nigeria?
stopped importing oil from nigeria = sactions.

why the santions? because nigerian president played tough and forced outside oil companies to pay taxes. oil companies are used to doing business without paying taxes EVEN in the US.

paying taxes apparently is enough for "sanctions". don't be fooled by the use of different words or reasons.

"By 2012, US oil imports from sub-Saharan Africa had declined by 59% from peaks only a few years earlier, compared to a less drastic 23% decline in overall US oil imports. Nowhere is this rapid shift felt more acutely than in Nigeria. In three years alone US crude oil imports from Nigeria have decreased by 75%, from nearly 359m barrels in 2010 to 87m in 2013. Based on the US Energy Information Agency’s figures for the first quarter of 2014, US imports will drop by another 75% this year alone to about 22m barrels. Edward Morse, head of commodities research at Citigroup Global Markets, predicts that the US and Canada will completely cease importing crude oil from West Africa some time this year."

So by your logic, are there sanctions on all of West and Central Africa now?

It doesn't matter why, the reasons could be legit or completely horsesh*t, the point is that Nigeria should be independent.

Nigeria may be overly dependent on its oil revenue, but how is it not independent as a nation?

I am talking about in terms of e-transfers. Nigeria is an independent nation, that is not being disputed.

But, if Nigeria has to rely on Visa and Mastercard, those being American companies, which are subject to obeying the laws of the US, then if the US were to apply sanctions against Nigeria, Nigeria would be severely affected.

Alternatively, if Nigeria has its own payment systems and can still conduct cashless transfers between other(neither Visa nor Mastercard) cashless transfer systems then sanctions would not cripple cashless transfers within Nigeria.

look at the documentary of what glencore did to zambia, and look at the documentary on ghana-nigera called big men

they know how to manipulate oil prices on wall street and make the african countries desperate to the point of selling their rights or shares then they buy them up then "markets resume".

Boko is sponsored by mysterious foreigners who have not revealed themselves.

there are some nigerians elite/politicians from their area who sponsor them too. so it looks mainly like a nigerian internal problem.

I disagree. Why would Nigeria call on the international community to help them stop the funding and supplying of an internal threat. They're looking for help to track where the resources are coming from because they have no idea. I believe obviously nigerians are involved but i dont believe they are the primary sponsors and suppliers otherwise, cant a nation look within itself to find out how the money is flowing, friend.

i'm not disagreeing with you. i'm adding to what you're saying. there's an interview with a frustrated retired nigerian politician who said there are politicians who support them. he didn't mention anything about foreign support. which i disagree with him on not mentioning the foreign support..
