We used to fight for building blocks now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'

"The closest of friends when we first started, but grew apart as the money grew, and soon grew blackhearted. Thinking back when we first learned to use rubbers, he never learned so in turn I'm kidnapping his baby's mother, my hand around her collar feeding her cheese, she said the taste of dollars was shytty so I fed her fifties, about his whereabouts I wasn't convinced, I kept feeding her money til her shyt started to make sense (cents)"

I'm convinced that the overwhelming majority of Jay haters never actually listened to his shyt, and if they did too much of it went over their head.

Jesus died at age 33
That's 33 shots from twin glocks theres 16 a piece that's 32
Which means one of guns was holding 17
27 hit your crew 6 went into you

:ahh:

I was never a fan of that line, no hate I love Nas, but it just seems like a pseudo-deep line that's not really tied together or saying anything slick or intelligent. Like what does Jesus' age have to do with 33 shots from twin glocks, and then after that he's just doing basic math.

a nikka see you in the street, pretend to be friendly
But I know any type of success breeds envy
I know in the back of your mind your conjuring ways to hen me
Leave my friends in a circle pouring out Henny
But G's (Jesus) is heaven bound so how I'm gon receive
Anything y'all pour to the ground next time throw it up

And ain't nothing changed so even in my afterlife I show it up
Dont grieve for me my art remains
like a dart from the speaker to your heart
Spiritually through the portal now my words as a mortal
Plan to leave without a fight I plant a seed I give life
Though I can't see past the girls greed to call her wife

Avengers compound
Who shyt is big pimpin? See the flow different
I drop heavy then I let the four-fifth flip em
I keep rappers talkin to kids, Jigga Sixth Sensed em
Don't mention my name and lames in the same sentence - Jay

I flow too many ways, got a arch in my flow
All sorts of flow,Rembrandt, Rilke
I am art with the flow
Even if I'm guilty, you gotta pardon the flow
nikkas taking me lightly, had to darken the flow
Way I put it together, tear'em apart with the flow
I'm too smart with the flow, you just started the flow
Stop it youngin, you 106th & Park with the flow
I am pro, as you see I'm off the charts with the flow
Actually I'm number one on the charts with the flow - Jay

The juxtaposition:wow::wow:

I'm so far ahead of my time, I'm bout to start another life
Look behind you, I'm bout to pass you twice
Back to the future and gotta slow up for the present
I'm fast, nikkas can't get past my past
How they propose to deal with my perfect present?

When I unwrap "The Gift & The Curse" in one session

When I realised he was also referring to the perfect present as a tense :ohhh::wow:

present ....past....perfect present = tenses

And then...you can't get over his past as a drug dealer how do you deal with his (perfect) present status as the elite king of rap?

The Gift & Curse is also his perfect present (according to Jay at the time)

And just to finish it off...Back to Future is a film about going back to the past

:ohlawd:
One my favorite Hov songs period :wow::mjcry:

"Everybody wanna be the King til' shots ring and you layin' on the balcony with holes in your dream" is one of the greatest bars I've ever heard in my life.

I remember the day I first heard/got it I just shook my head.
That line is so..wow

I've always been of the opinion that Jay is the best at the gun play rap while also being slick and clever about it. That "38 revolve like the sun around the earth line was always really dope to me too. ""I wet ya'll all with the holy water, sprayed from the Heckler & Koch...auto...matic...all the static shall cease to exist, like a sabatical, when I throw a couple at you, take six"

Way too many of these to count.

I first realized it in 2003 when The Black Album and Hunger For More by G-Unit leaked out on the same day. Me and my buddies listened to both albums all the way through and listening to Threat on TBA compared with how G-Unit did all their gun play punch lines made me appreciate how well Jay can rap about killing you.

"
I make 'em wait for you 'til five in the mornin
Put your smarts on the side of your garment

Now it's a duet, and you wet, when you check out
the technique from the 2 tecs and I don't need two lips,
To blow just like a trumpet, you dumb shyt

Like castor oil, I'll Castor Troy you
Change your face or the bullets change all that for you
y'all n---s is targets
Y'all are garages for bullets, please don't make me park it
in your upper level, valet a couple strays
from the 38 special, God bless you

Because one's four-five might blow your high
You ain't gotta go to church to get to know your God
