The basic plot was the same, but very different execution. There was probably at least a dozen or so shows with that format in the late 70s-80s; heck I'd count Kung Fu and the Hulk in that lineup.

It was great because 1/2 the time he was someone else and they never quite knew what they were doing.

Not sure if it was a conscious decision but he was home, and Al leaped but was about to die. He switched places with him I believe and never made it home.
