this save system is ass
Checkpoint system is terrible for sure. There's a workaround when at the CPU/Raven. If you go into Raven guy and do a battle technique, It will always save upon exit. So if you're at a spot you wanna get your accessories right and stock up on items, do that first, then go to Raven and do a technique (I always do Guillotine Throw, as it's quick) then go on about your game.

I don't know what they were thinking with how they did checkpoints. Big time oversight.

8/10 will be a 8.5/10 once the dlc drops. It’s very much Platinum’s take on a NG game. They did a great job but hopefully Team Ninja returns to direct the next game. They have a level of rawness and visual flair. That differentiates them from Capcom and Platinum. But they might’ve moved on to Nioh smh.

Pros
  • Gameplay is gas both characters plays great
  • The OST is fire
  • Game runs like butter
  • Boss battles are dope
  • The difficulty is still there
Cons
  • They went the DMC4 route with the Ryu sections.
  • I don’t like the way you acquire Ryu’s skills.
  • Ryu weapons are locked behind DLC
  • The environments lookwise gets repetitive and the level design is mid.
Hell no. Guess I'm waiting for the inevitable ninja gaiden 4 black or whatever they'll choose to call it.

What’s yall Gripe with save points?

I have not noticed anything bad, seems to save when you access the store or before every major fight?
It definitely doesn't save when you access store. Usually it's right before. So say you get to that Raven/Store area right before boss, it'll save right when you get to the area, not when you interact. So your checkpoint will be locked in with whatever health, items, accessories you have at that instant. So if you fight boss, die/take too much damage and reload from Checkpoint and not Retry Battle (for death purposes), then you'll load in that same way every time.

So you'll have to hit Umi to fill health, buy items (if you so choose), then change your accessories around (if you so choose) every single time. Pain in the ass. But the Raven workaround is good though, so you can do all that then hit the Raven and not worry about it. Still stupid that you have to do it that way.

Yeah why they did it that way is also ridiculous. I mean, I don't know how they're gonna work it with him and extra weapons anyways, considering his Ninpo currently occupies those slots. lol if we have to menu to change his weapons. I know that's how it was in the past games, but Yakumo has access to his weapons at any time. But again, Ryu's ninpo is there. So we'll see.

Oh, i think i’ve always hit “retry battle” so far :ohhh:

I was just happy consumables get reset instead of being used up when you restart like the older games :ehh:

I finally copped this on sale ($55) last night and straight off the high of beating NG2 Black the day prior and playing a bit more yesterday while waiting for this to download. (which looking back in retrospect, that game's problems has me lowering my enjoyment over it a bit). Ironically enough, the feel of this game is definitely not the feel of 2 or previous 3d NG games and it was throwing me off initially, to the point if I wasn't sure if I was feeling it as much, but I've already acclimated to it in that time (still only on the 1st or 2nd level; I was actually really tired last night and couldn't force myself to play it as much as I even wanted to).

The lighter feel of Yakumo and the combat in itself was making me feel like there wasn't enough oomph to the impact of the attacks and dare I say even a lil too stylistic over substance. But it's quickly growing on me that this is actually mostly for the best as while the camera isn't perfect, it's loads better than the old games and Yakumo's movement speed is actually what I thought Ryu always should've been like (Ryu feels slow as fukk in regular movement/running in NG1-3 to be a ninja, not even comparative to this game). I like that there's momentum to the speed, you actually move really swiftly and there's build up and slowdown to his run animation. Game feels real brisk and now having gotten comfortable with it, it's in a good way.

Graphics look amazing on the pro too, like super fukking clean and the pro prioritize performance mode doesn't sacrifice much of any fidelity whilst averaging 90-100+ frames unlocked in combat. Music is quite a bit better as well. Nothing too crazy so far, but more engaging and comparatively more memorable as well.

I honestly had tempered my expectations a bit for this release, especially even after playing through 2Black initially. I held off day-1ing both games for lower sales price, but overall now, I am pleased with both efforts and much more eagerly awaiting going through this one now.
