fair pointExcept they were doing their own thing there too. The difference was back then Nintendo was the industry. They set the standard. Outside of the Sega Genesis what real competitor did they have back then? The Genesis was outsold by almost 20 million units. They weren't really a problem.
If you're the only real player in the game you can do whatever you want and it's industry standard practice by default.
