Except they were doing their own thing there too. The difference was back then Nintendo was the industry. They set the standard. Outside of the Sega Genesis what real competitor did they have back then? The Genesis was outsold by almost 20 million units. They weren't really a problem.

If you're the only real player in the game you can do whatever you want and it's industry standard practice by default.
fair point

because the common person isn't tech savvy enough to download and run an emulator.
wouldn't that also be true for those interested in this service on the Switch?

I guess it should also be said that downloading ROM's is illegal. that could be an issue for some people

If people cared about stuff like that movie piracy and stuff like Napster would have never got popular. when piracy is simple and easy so that anybody can easily do it people embrace it.

I agree, but why was the NES Classic sold out everywhere?

cause Nintendo purposely didn't produce enough to drive up demand with their bullshyt artificial scarcity...but mostly cause of nostalgia. When I went to go cop one on launch, the majority of the people where either people around my age or older...and as @winb83 said, they're the types who don't really know shyt about downloading, whereas this solution is plug and play.
