Nintendo doesn't seem to get it. If they release another home console it's probably not gonna sell too much better than the Wii U. Their core audinece has shrunk to that point which is why the Wii U is struggling. The average gamer is getting older and older. They aren't as interested in all that kid friendly stuff Nintendo is trying to do anymore. It's like their audience grew up and Nintendo didn't grow with them.

Now if they can put out a box that matches the specs of the Xbox and Playstation and beyond that get third parties to support them then they'll have it made. If parents can but a single game console and it has all the games they wanna play and the games their kids wanna play they'll do that. Nobody really trying to buy the kids a dedicated game console anymore. Especially when you can cop a cheap tablet and get app store games for under $5. Why would moms and dads but a $200 dedicated portable game device and pay $40 for games when you can do more on a tablet it cost less and the games are cheaper?

Nintendo should either:
1. go all in on portable gaming and make their own kid tablet and games for it
2. suck it up and make a console equal to their competitors hardware specs and get all the major third party game studios on-board
3. just make games for their competitors systems and stop making consoles altogether.
4. both 1 and 3

Personally I think Nintendo will continue on their current path and like Blockbuster in the face on Netflix in it's early DVD mailing days march to their own destruction instead of adapting.

Nintendo's third party woes date back to the N64. Wasn't as bad then as it is now but the early start of it was back then. We're talking about a game console that came out in 1996 so almost 20 years of this bullshyt. Every system Nintendo fans tell themselves things will change. We're 4 systems into this pattern. It's not going to change. Historically if you look at Nintendo home consoles each one sells worse than the last not including the Wii and we know that only sold better because of the motion control gimmick.

Gamers wanna converge to one default console which is why Microsoft is struggling now (too similar to PlayStation and not different enough to justify buying). People would love nothing more than to be able to buy that one box that plays everything and if they can't then they'll buy the one that plays the most stuff they want and that's not Nintendo and it will likely never be a Nintendo platform again.

Here’s All the News From April’s Nintendo Direct

All of our coverage in one convenient place. Jose OteroThe April Nintendo Direct of 2015 lifted the veil on the company’s immediate plans. Now, there’s a few things to be excited about from today’s announcements, but keep your expectations in check! Nothing in this presentation comes close to curing the heartbreak of Zelda Wii U’s recent delay. Alas, we have to wait for E3 2015 to (hopefully) cure that wound.
But there are some great updates coming to Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8. And Nintendo 64 and DS games finally come to Wii U Virtual Console. With so much news, however, we thought it best to wrap-up everything that happened in one helpful place.
Smash Bros. Updates
Nintendo released price and date details for a bunch of Smash Bros. DLC. First, Mewtwo joins the battle on April 15 for anyone who registered both versions of Smash Bros. with Club Nintendo. Anyone who missed out can purchase the character on April 28. Lucas, the scaredy-cat protagonist of Mother 3, will join the roster in June.

Nintendo also announced that Mii Fighter costumes would be coming to Smash Bros Wii U, 3DS as paid DLC. But here’s the big question: Whom do you want to see added to the lineup? Nintendo wants to know, and it has set up a program where fans can vote on the next Smash Bros. character.
The company also announced that Wave 4 of the Smash Bros. series would release in May, followed by subsequent waves in July and September.
Wii U Virtual Console Gets an Upgrade
Nintendo 64 and DS games will be added to the Wii U Virtual Console. Today, you can download Super Mario 64 and Yoshi’s Island DS for $9.99 USD each.
Other Game Updates
Nintendo gave some release updates for some of its upcoming software. It led off these announcements with Mario Maker, which will release in September. The adorable Yoshi’s Wolly World is coming this Fall, and it will have two modes of play. Splatoon will release on May 29, alongside a dedicated amiibo line. Nintendo also shed some light on Splatoon’s 1v1 mode, called Battle Dojo. Code Name STEAM is getting an update to speed up Enemy Turns. Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is getting a demo on April 30.
Fatal Frame Wii U is coming to the West this Fall. Nintendo is adding two new games to StreetPass Mii Plaza. Meanwhile, Fire Emblem will come to North America in 2016. You can take a look at all of the Indie Games shown during the Direct here. We also got our first look at Shin Megami X Fire Emblem.

All About Amiibo

Nintendo continues to double down on amiibo in 2015. The Japanese game maker’s toys-to-life product will see inclusion in Splatoon, as adorable yarn-made plush toys in Yoshi’s Wooly World, and as cards in a 3DS game called Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

Nintendo’s NFC reader, an attachment for any existing customers who haven’t updated to the New Nintendo 3DS, will launch alongside the new Animal Crossing game this Fall. Wii U owners can look forward to amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Hits, a new application that will unlock 3-minute demos of classic NES and SNES games.
Mario Kart 8 DLC
Nintendo closed out its April Nintendo Direct presentation with an update on Mario Kart 8’s Animal Crossing DLC. The previously announced set, which includes new playable characters, karts, and courses, is revving up for release on April 23. A title update, released at the same time, will add more unlockable amiibo costumes.
Finally, Nintendo announced a special 200cc mode would be rolled out as part of the same update.
That's all for today's Nintendo Direct. Let us know what you think in the comments, and for more Nintendo coverage make sure to keep it right here on IGN.
