stick with the physical and buy the games on ebay or amazon games should be around 20 - 25. Don't trust GameStop

The DS is the GOAT handheld. 
The best version was the DS Lite. I would advise getting a 3DSXL instead though due to it being backwards compatible.

I think you can pirate on any of them. I'm not to familiar with it. All I know about it is that you use flash carts.

If you looking to play 3ds games the GateWay 3ds is what you're looking for. Be advise to do your homework as the card is very expensive like 70 I think as it is the only card that pirates 3ds games, and only works with older firmware.

If you're looking to play nintendo ds lite games, go to realhottuff and buy the acekard 2i. The acekard 2i works on a 3ds or NDS lite, but the ds lites games look kinda bad on the 3ds. The acekard 2i is like $18.
