You can use homebrew to transfer your wii data to your wii u

Homebrew isn't necessary.

Once its modded your usb drives are unlocked and work as they are supposed to. You can just transfer a thumbstick or an external HD between the two. Or, you can use an SD card reader to simply use your PC to transfer stuff via the card. You can also use SD cards waaay bigger than the default wii memory cards once your system is modded.

I'm not sure if the data is the same type. I don't have a wii U, just a wii. I was addressing data transfer. If the nintendo software is not merely transfering, but converting the data... thats another thing.

But transfering would be as simple as unplugging your drive/stick from your wii and plugging it into your wii u. Yes.

Like I said, I don't have a wiiU so I'm speaking from past gen.
