Nintendo is shutting down Wii U and 3DS stores

We would like to inform you that the handling of credit cards and transportation e-money in the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo 3DS series and Wii U will be terminated at 9:00 a.m. on January 18, 2022 (Tuesday). After the termination, you will no longer be able to add balances using credit cards and transportation e-money from the Nintendo 3DS series and Wii U.

Never had to check into my Wii store or 3ds store to update or run a game before playing it.

I just purchased items there.... Which if I can't anymore I don't really get the connection you are trying to make.

I was just wondering the other day when that was going to start happening. That is the best part of the Wii U at this point: you can basically be the ultimate virtual console (if you don’t just want to emulate, anyways)

My backlog is probably 40% 3ds games lmao. But all of my nintendo systems are hacked so i'll get around to them eventually!!

Actually im sure citra/cemu probably runs like a dream on the steam deck....

I own both and they’ve been jailbroken for years. No need for the store.
If you really want to buy stuff, you can add credits using a web browser or a Switch.

However, users will still be able to use Nintendo prepaid cards after January 2022. If users have money left in their NNID accounts, they can continue using the balance for purchases on the Nintendo Store by combining their NNID with a Nintendo Account. After doing so, users will be able to continue purchasing 3DS and Wii U software using their existing balance as well as credit cards, in addition to PayPal and prepaid cards.
