The Joy-Con grip bundled with Nintendo Switch does not charge your Joy-Con controllers.

This was a detail left unclear after Nintendo's 4am Switch event last Friday, but which has now been clarified by shop listings for a separate, chargeable Joy-Con grip peripheral- priced £27.99.

The basic Joy-Con grip included with the console is simply a plastic shell. It exists just to hold your Joy-Con but not charge them.

The premium Joy-Con charging grip, available separately, includes a USB connection so you can plug in and power the device while playing, and in turn charge attached Joy-Con.

Without the chargeable grip, you can charge Joy-Con while they are attached to the Nintendo Switch itself. But this option isn't available if you are using the Joy-Con and your Switch is docked to the TV.

The premium charging grip is also made of sexier translucent black plastic, as opposed to the dull matte version bundled in the console box.

Nintendo's official site lists the Joy-Con's battery life as "about 20 hours", although notes this may become shorter with use over time. The two Joy-Con take 3.5 hours to charge - whether attached to the Switch itself or the premium Joy-Con charging grip accessory.

Then put them on the Switch and charge them. I don't see the problem here. It's a portable with removable controllers. If you want to play and charge use the Switch in portable mode and plug it up.
Having to pay extra to charge your controllers on a home console hybrid while playing it at home is an unnecessary inconvenience in 2k17 at best
Nickel and dime bullshyt at worse

You don't have to pay extra. This thing is a portable device you have the option to play on your TV. You can charge the controllers out of the box by just plugging the Switch up with the controllers docked on it. If you want to play and charge at the same time then play it in portable mode while you charge.

They marketing it as a hybrid home and portable console
If u don't want to have to drain you battery on the portable( shortening your battery life) to charge your controllers u have to pay extra
Something like that is bullshyt in this day and age

The controllers have 20 hour battery life and there's only 24 hours in a day. In a normal day of playing you won't kill the batteries. Even if you did you can play and charge them both in portable mode by plugging the Switch up to the included AC adapter with the controllers docked to it.

You are complaining about nothing here.

It would have been nice to include this, but I'm not surprised. Nintendo was doing the controller hustle with the Wii U with all the bullshyt controllers they had. I love that Microsoft got off that after the 360, because those controllers broke every month.

They're wrong because if you use the device in its natural state it's a portable. Only if you place it in a separate dock then it can be played on a TV.

U realize the battery on that console has a limited number of charge cycles before it degrades?
If that's a concern for you then they have a $30 accessory that should help. I'm unconcerned about that. When the battery dies like all batteries do I'll either get it replaced by Nintendo or if the next generation of it is BC I won't care.

The item you're complaining about is a luxury. Not required to use the device at all.

Yea I personally don't see it as a big deal either. They still can be charged when not being used.

I don't know how PS4 does it, but I know my XB1 didn't come with rechargeable batteries. I think that's more nickel and diming than what Nintendo is doing
