I don't see why that'd be an issue.
Neither backpackers nor college rappers are the end all be all
of Hip Hop culture.

thats not what I implied.. You cant go to bat for the culture but kinda shyt on backpackers and college kids or whatever

and vice versa

The I in Team
We can criticize a street nikka, but we can’t be aware of the mindfukk that’s going on with these corporations and these motherfukkin’ giants. It’s a problem that Nip still values his product at $100—I get backlash from our culture. From the nikkas that look like me. Most of these nikkas rap for their damn selves. But when nikkas go into the mall and buy $600 iPhones—and everybody’s got an iPhone—and stand in line for $1,000 shoes, and pay $5 a gallon for gas. That’s why I’m mad. That’s my objective and nikkas gotta wake up. It’s a misinformed critique.

:banderas:

Aside from him dissing complex he said some real powerful shyt. This is intelligent insightful shyt from someone trying to be a boss instead of a worker. Honestly I never listened to a nipsey song, nor had interest to, but he got my attention. If anybody can recommend some of his better tracks I'd be interested.

Stop it b. Nip was not even shytting on backpackers or college kids. Nipsey is actually one of the few rappers who encourage intelligence and higher learning. nikka even went to college himself for a couple semesters.

He was just stating that his story is HELLA different than a backpack rapper, who didnt come from the same enviroment as him. So to match their input, quality and type of music makes no sense. Hence all the "real nikka" retoric. He jus didnt articulate it properly cuz he was probably pissed during the whole interview.

People that understand the difference understood the statement. Its the folks that use that type of thought to critique and judge different levels of hip hop music that won't/don't get it.

The best part of the interview that conveys this is the "you must drop in 6months rule." He very clearly states that any fan of hip hop is dumb if they live by this rule. Its fukkn retarded. That's that synthetic form of hip hop I was alluding to earlier. If you're forcing all artist to create music in the same environment, at the same speed, with the same producers, OF COURSE you're going to get fast food music. The way hip hop fans consume the music is on some assembly line shyt and then they complain when the system changes to meet their dikkriding ways.

Thats why the entire theme of this article is about ownership and culture.

Great interview and god damn if that isn't the truth. This whole you gotta be present 24/7/365 for four years straight to be deemed "hot" or get validated as an artist is some corny Internet, ADD shyt. People need to take time between albums (loving that Adele is doing this, bey finally is doing it, etc) to live life.

Lil Wayne is the prime suspect for that shyt.

I respect what his doing and everything but what makes him so special I mean his really feeling himself.

He needs to make more music that is about OVERCOMING shyt in life, not just harp about it. Jay Rock is a perfect example.

"who is an editor to have an opinion on a street nikka? Bottom line. Those editors don’t live this life. They don’t go through the struggle. I’m from the Rolling 60's my nikka."

:comeon:

see this's what I don't like about these so-called street rappers, just because you lived the life, it doesn't make you better (or worse) rapper. You shouldn't get a special treatment because you from the rolling 60s. At the end of the day, the only reason I heard about you is because you make rap records.

Put Nipsey in a battle with a true lyricist, like Lupe. Only then, can he prove himself as a worthy MC.
