Nipsey is actually one of my favorites from the "current" rappers.
Hes an incredible rapper, especially lyrically hes one of the few who make real "motivational/introspective/real life" songs but he can also do classic, old school west coast gangsta shyt. Its the fact that nothing about that contradicts itself or doesnt go together, which makes him all the more impressive.
But the problems I got with his more recent stuff like this right here for example are:
-His voice/delivery seem to have changed on some of the songs. His older songs were much smoother in regards to his voice, nowdays sometimes it sounds kinda raspy & hoarse. Also on a good bunch of those songs here is flow is in that annoying trap compatible style, you know what I mean.
-The beats. Way too many repetitive weak af trap drums/overall "trappy" beats on this. Also that "new west coast" sound is already getting on my nerves, he didnt have to resort to thi on his earlier tapes. When I listen to "the marathon", "TMC" or the "Bullets" tapes his delivery, beats & flow are much much more captivating & powerful for me. Cant count how many times I bumped songs like "Who Detached Us", "Road To Riches", "Run A Lap", "Love", "Walk In My Shoes" etc. in my car just driving in the summer and really feeling them. Somehow most of the current hit just doesnt catch me that way anymore, sounds kinda flat.
-the influence of features like this fakkit embarassment young thug also is the last thing he needs.
