I generally agree. I haven't heard all of his shyt in part because when he first came out the Snoop comparisons and his rapping style turned me off. I'd tune in and out. But those last couple years he was clearly evolving. Still some issues, like the way he often ended bars with "nikka" always grated on me. But he nailed Victory Lap and when you listen back to the stuff he said about it...he was so excited to finally get the sound right in terms of mixing. Having an entire album mixed/mastered professionally by Ali. I remember him saying he gonna stick to that for future projects too.

I don't like declaring that someone would have done xyz if they lived longer, if they didn't do it before death. Do I think he would have gotten bigger? Yes of course. Dunno how big but even if he just got to a point where he was doing shyt Ross and Meek used to do in terms of relevance that would have been big. Plus I def think Kendrick would have taken him on tour at some point.

Agreed with this list. To me this is where you hear the more refined Nip, where he finally put it together rapping wise.

Now with Victory Lap, he elevated the production and mixing along with that rapping.

Such a tragedy, to think what he would’ve been both as a rapper and generally as a black man.

Day one Nip fan, ASAP Yams put me onto him in 2008. Once I heard these two I knew he was different

His peak as an emcee was The Marathon/TMC. Voice, flow, rhyming, etc...

But his artistry was still growing at the end.

I've fukked with him heavy since Bullets 1, but he was my favorite rapper since he dropped the Marathon. The whole thing is still pretty devastating to me.

Nipsey has no classics. The Marathon is very good, but not classic. Y'all love gassing shyt.

Day 1 Nip fan here. I've never based my definition of classics on the standard or status quo/ group think.... it's always been what moves me personally. Mailbox Money is a personal classic to me. That's the Nip album that stands out amongst the others imo

Nah he peaked as an artist period, which includes his cadence and flow and everything, at the end, No Pressure and Victory Lap. No Pressure in particular saw the most elite flowing of his career. He opened the tape with fukking bars:

"Effortless, call us aggressive intelligence/Hussle, my heart a tsunami/executive, buy us a spot in Connecticut/come from the block with a etiquette, I never lied to the fellowship/we just surviving the elements, but I had my eye on some better shyt"...

This nikka never opened any drop that crisp, and those first 4 bars set the tone for some truly elite rapping on this tape, his storytelling was at the highest level he ever reached. He also said this shyt on No Pressure:

•"chronicle yellow tape, medicinal devil face, ambition to elevate, but try not to separate/the losses became a race, the wins we gone celebrate/started 2008, and I promised my nikkas I take this shyt all the way/never complained I take all this hate, in turn I'm just asking for all your faith/follow my lead and you saw the lake, so don't turn on me now if you not a snake, we went to war and I caught a case/that nikka Nip threw it all away, up in the county, had acouple fights a day, I'm on my bunk tryna map a brighter day/you underestimate, 7 digits, let em see how I levitate/see how a player play it? Know that I know but you see how I never say it?/you wasn't never there, we the ones took all the risks and was never scared, we took it everywhere/put the hood in my veins with my name just to make it clear/yall nikkas is Hollyweird, you get zero respect in the set, you is not a peer/if the killas at the table politicking know your name, we know that you not appearing/don't act like you not aware, don't act like we don't know you deal with alota fear/we know you gone disappear, know it's too much when some nikkas get really killed"...("Never Gone Know")

•"paint a picture perfect, twice as rich for certain/hurry up and leave the block if you ain't made a purchase/it's a long story, I been workin, dropped 10 tapes and I ain't nicked the surface/I like to think I gave the hood a different purpose, I ain't never seen these type of nikkas this encouraged/first 7 figures I admit to splurgin, I admit to breaking down when I spoke at your service/natural born leader ain't no getting nervous/ain't no thinking, aint no planning, we just putting work in/a hundred thousand cash make you feel important, break bread with your team, now you feel extorted/gotta get that out your heart cause we can't afford it/gave your word, then the plan aborted/I always planned a fortune, get my people out this land of corpses/Nipsino, Young Legend outta California"...("Skurr")

His last two drops were his peak as an emcee, artist, rapper, everything...

@ISO, if you haven't heard the tracks I listed in this post, go listen to them real quick and tell me how often you ever heard Nip spit on this level bro!

Yessir I listened to all his shyt after he passed he was at his peak right before he died

No Pressure was hard him and Dave East got a dope ass joint on there

By the end he was a very good rapper emotion, imagery, raspy vocal tone, conversation flow, jewels, motivation, introspection
