She has some pretty popular songs on youtube. But she's a singer/songwriter. I'd imagine the label wants her to put down the guitar and go more pop. Even Taylor Swift doesn't really have that "singer songwriter" look anymore. She's doing straight up pop shyt. That's where the argument is imo.
I never dealt directly with these types of artists but I saw them come and go at the label. Most sign thinking a label is gonna sell the "cute girl with a guitar" or "handsome guy with a piano" thing to the mainstream, but that almost never pans out. In reality a label uses those people to write for established artists. Sometimes the songwriter types break through, like Skylar Grey but let's be real...she hasn't done anything as a solo artist. Despite the label hyper sexualizing her.
