Naito/Ibushi nearly made me want to cancel my NJPWWorld sub

Two idiots dropping each other on their heads and calling it a wrestling match

Alavrez was 100% correct when he said that praising that match in any way would be bad for the wrestling business, hope Meltzer feels the same and knocks off a few stars just because of how stupid they were

The Jericho rating is unbelievable :gucci: I agree with the Ishii rating, Ishii was an absolute GOD in that one. I'd go really high on the Dragon Lee match too. Shingo/Kojima was pretty good but just a regular lower card match really.

This is what he said about Ibushi/Naito

Tetsuya Naito pinned Kota Ibushi in 22:06 to win the IC title. Ibushi showed up looking in incredible shape. The crowd actually booed Naito early, but by the end of the match they were way behind him in cheering for his title win. Naito was booed again spitting on Ibushi. Ibushi did a double foot stomp and a huracanrana to the floor. Ibushi did a corkscrew pescado with his right knee nailing Naito in the chin. Ibushi did a half nelson German suplex. Naito used a tornado DDT and at this point the crowd was heavily cheering Naito. Next came the spot with the German suplex on the apron by Naito. They did all kinds of big spots. There were multiple high angle head landings by both men. Ibushi acted like Nakamura and went for the bom a ye but Naito moved. Naito hit a destino but Ibushi kicked out. He blocked a second destino and Ibushi hit the GTS. Ibushi hit a last ride power bomb for a near fall. He went for the kamagoye but Naito countered into a high angle DDT, followed by a destino off the ropes, a poison rana, Northern Lights bomb and another destino for the win. Honestly you could give this match anything from negative stars to ****3/4. As far as drama and engaging the live crowd, it was a near match of the year. But if you care about performers’ safety, it’s very different viewing and it was hard to enjoy. I think the botched apron spot took a lot of people out of it because the slow-mo was one of the sickest landings, in the sense it looked like Ibushi had broken his neck, and he’s broken his neck before. Mentally you wanted it stopped and they not only didn’t stop, but they continued to do everything they planned. Plus, Ibushi’s selling was so great that it made you think he was completely out, which either made it better for realism, or far too real to enjoy, depending on your viewpoint. Still, this is the modern version of Undertaker vs. Foley Hell in a Cell, which with 20 years of perspective, was a terrible thing because of all the stunt bumps it encouraged and how guys got into the business thinking they could get over by doing that stuff rather than wrestling. That said Foley was hurt far worse in that match. What they did in that match was more dangerous. It did make Foley’s career and he’s made a career of doing talk shows based largely on that match. It helped make Jim Ross the legendary voice of a generation with his impromptu call. It’s one of the most famous and vivid matches of all-time. I hated that one when it happened even worse than this, yet it became part of wrestling legend. And for all the same reasons, this one is probably going to be copied and admired, and that’s all wrong. But in wrestling if you study history, being wrong very often works to your advantage and becomes mythical. Hopefully not here. The good news is that the worst injury came from the head-butt, but why is anyone getting hurt from a head-butt. You either work the head-butt and it’s perfectly safe, or you shouldn’t be doing it at all, because we’ve learned too much to be doing shoot head-butts.

I just lol'd at the idea of him putting essentially the opening match and the main event at the same high level when one was just a basic opener/low card match and the other was a boring mess of Jericho wheezing for 25 minutes.

All of these ratings are ridiculous.

**1/4 for Mox/Umino, a semi-inconsequential 4 minute Young Lion squash.

****1/4 for Shingo/Kojima :gucci:

**** for Ishii/Taichi, a contender for worst Ishii match of the last 5 years :why:

Over 3 stars for a GOD match in general :stopitslime:

***** for that Ospreay/Lee nonsense :mindblown:

****1/4 for Okada/Jericho :hhh::scust::dwillhuh::snoop:

The steroids are ruining Dave's brain.

And that Japanese thread is dead, same 4 posters posting over and over again aint a popping thread. With everyone looking for new shyt to watch if ya would drop the "ya dont know puro we know puro":martin: attitude maybe more people would post there but like i said what do i know.

Rest of it sounds like more pretentious puro neckbeard babble.

I don't have anything against the other Japanese promotions, but there is only so much free time I have and NJPW is my favorite company right now. They are big enough and good enough that they deserve their own thread(s) away from a general discussion puro thread. I do think that thread can be off-putting for various reasons. Doing a Dominion thread (which has done better than I thought it would) and the Kizuna Road/Southern Showdown thread is a great way to get eyes on the product and discussion going that maybe normally wouldn't have happened had the show been lumped in with the main Japan thread.

You better believe that G1 thread is coming, too, if someone doesn't beat me to it. :salute:

But we're all so friendly :mjcry: I was thinking of doing a G1 thread with some history and whatnot but I'll fall behind with the tournament as usual, so probably better for someone else to start it. I'm glad the big Japanese shows have their own threads, it's a good sign :obama:

Even if it was his worst for 5 years, it's still ****

Dead on w everything you posted :salute:

Yeah NJ is what i watch the most consistently as well...prob mlw too they doing some fun stuff over there. Right when i canceled the network i gave random subs to different promotions so i got to see some of ddt's stuff and some currently AJ but yeah it was only bits and pieces. NJ is the only promotion i know all the storylines etc, i dont watch the elite show so i dont really know any of aew storylines hopefully that will change when the tv show drops.

I'll give anything non E a watch as long as it aint Joey Ryan fukkery :hhh: or super indy shyt :hhh:

That would be a great thread especially since this g1 seems to be going back to the old tours when random wcw guys would pop up. Aew dont start till the fall would be dope to have more of their guys show up :ohlawd: give us Penta and Fenix in a block :noah:

This year will prob have more eyes on it w Moxley as well.
