He just did 88k in the third week. This flop talk only holds water if you’re holding him to some unrealistic standard. Otherwise he’s competing for the best selling album of the year.

OP actually has some points. The album and Kendrick at times feels uninspired. The “best rapper of his generation“, ain’t suppose to be only singing on songs and getting out rap by Kodak Black. “The best rapper of his generation” isn’t suppose to let inferior emcees have their own tracks on HIS album. Does Kendrick sound hungry? Does he sound like wants to retake the crown? Not really.

At times the album sounds like the an artist fulfilling contractual obligations begrudgingly. At times it sounds like the ramblings of a man out of touch with society (“wtf is cancel culture dawg”/ thinking a track like We Cry Together should see the light of day), afraid to grab the mantle and rep like PAC did (savior), and who runs away from expectations and doing the work when called upon (response to Noname/I choose me). Wouldn’t be surprise if this last album.

Maybe he isn't the best rapper of this generation.

I consider myself a Kendrick fan, but he has flaws that prevent him from entering that next tier of greatness. One of them is the rambling. I can't take the screaming on songs that seemingly have no overall point. Then there's songs like "We Cry Together" that work better as short film than music. That's the difference between this album and TPAB. Most of TPAB was still music. His new album, which I think is good, but a lot of it sounds like performance art if that makes sense. Some of these songs don't really work as songs that you would want to play more than once. It's like the concepts end up being >>>>> the music and the execution. Sometimes all it takes is a dope song. With DAMN, he understood the assignment.

Idk if I said this before on here but even though admittedly the album feels more like a mixtape than an album due to the production being all over the place, it has a solid theme throughout both sides. And Kendrick being problematic is a breath of fresh air after all the messiah shyt mfs put on him.

I feel that a lot he seems to be completely distance from TDE and you feel it on the album lacks some TDE feats and beats

I do think once he’s on his own he will come harder with a better tape

Sound sound sound
Drake's CLB came and went just as fast. and Drake was chasing the typical radio hits.

CLB is still like #11 on the album charts almost a year later

Nas “magic” would be a more realistic example of an album that came and went

And this Kendrick album which will be in like the 15 range in 2-3 weeks going downwards
Let’s talk facts :sas2:

It’s possible it will be that low, but he had a very strong 3rd week. Moved nearly 80,000 units and only a 5% drop from the second week numbers. If he’s doing around 20-25 a week by week 6, that would be ok.
