No bs, but am I the only one who thinks Richard Pryor wasn't all that funny?

I remember in the early 90's when Martin had that "Talking Sh*t" tape.....This chick I was messing with swore up and down that martin was that dude so I leant her the Richard Pryor tapes "That nikka's crazy" and "is It Something I said"....she said it was wack.....I told her thats because she isn't putting herself in the mindstate of the time. Kinda like how some people would probably say Lenny Bruce isn't funny for todays standards. That raunchiness that Richard was doing wasn't normal back in the days but the norm now....so the impact foul language had was much different back then. Kinda like how back in the 80's rap records didnt have the parental advisory sticker and rappers werent cursing like that compared to every rap album that comes out now. The ops comments remind me of people who will listen to Run DMC's "Raising Hell" album and say its dated.....You not putting ya self in the mindstate of the time...thats the reason for your lack of an understanding.

RICHARD PRYOR can tell actual STORIES because you have to realize he comes from that legacy where a "joke" had to have some structure..kind of like a song...

give u an example...i read an autobiography he did and he told the story of where his HUMOR came from:

"My comedy was definitly influenced from my pops, who was brutally honest but funny at times....i remember growing up as a kid in Michigan and all those winters we had to deal with...

anyway we had to deal with the sadness of burying my mother who had passed away.....

i remember us (the whole family) being at the burial site, shivering in the freezing cold , as the snow flakes are just about falling...and everything is just straight silent...nobody saying a word , just looking somber...till my POPS opens his mouth and says...

"sheeeit...if it get any COLDER out here..THAT BYATCH GONNA HAVE TO BURY HERSELF!




Now if you don't find THAT FUNNY then perhaps the problem is YOU ..not RICHARD PRYOR

As I've stated, I appreciate his social commentary and even his ability to tell his story and stories but dude just never had me like

There's things he's said such as what you've used as an example that have made me chuckle but I find other's such as Paul Mooney and Redd Foxx funnier.

Op isnt giving good rebuttles. Me personally I think the name "richard pryor" should be removed from the thread title and replaced with Katt Williams and Kevin Hart. Never understood the hype behind these 2 all though I will say that Kevin hart has greatly improved during the years.
