What happened to Rock is slowly happening to Rap. You are seeing the beginning of Rap no longer being the dominant genre in music. :francis:
It’s lost its aggression and is no longer the voice of a generation. I knew this shyt was a wrap when I couldn’t think of a recent universally accepted summer anthem and the protests of 2020 and only got that shytty Lil Baby song. These new nikkas scared to say anything and the ones like K. Dot who do get labeled as preachy and shyt. Everybody can’t be smoking and drinking it up in a section nor care to.

I'm more impressed that y'all are arguing the "this is the beginning of the end" angle from 15 years ago....than the lack of posters putting links to bum ass rappers nobody wants to listen to as examples of "hip hop we should be listening to"

Rappers all adopting this put out an album every 3-5 years/disappear til it's time to do a promo run was eventually going to get to a point where there were large periods where big names weren't dropping albums.

Hood dudes were always in rap, they just weren't talking about it. Very different.
the content of music has changed in the mainstream, dudes are all killers and dope fiends, thats the point. hood chicks been in music talking about their p*ssy as well, the point is thats all thats getting mainstream looks RN.

So people who are the kings of their generation and sold number one before aren’t held to doing it again. Got it… :mjlol:

Durk came out like 12 years ago and is closer to meek and future generation than this and youngboy drop to much to have high numbers like that

Lil baby would probably be the highest selling artist of this generation and if he dropped next week he would go number 1

Like i said it’s timing and none of the heavyweights dropped

It’s always been like that

durk came out years ago but didn't really pop until a few years ago, he was also hella young when he dropped so his age matches more with the other current hot dudes who are 26-31.

and that's great, one of the 4-5 dudes crowned for the current gen can go #1 repeatedly as opposed to all the top 5-10 acts from the past getting #1's...
