I know it’s not hip hop but man if Tory didn’t shoot Meg and dropped alone at prom that shyt would have blew him to the stratosphere. Especially coming off the momentum from that IG shyt he had going on during the pandemic. We could have been had a alone at prom 2 by now.
:banderas:

But now that shyt ain’t going to see the light of day.

If a rapper did Miley Cyrus numbers, everyone would be calling it a flop. How exactly does she have a chokehold on anything?

119K sold in week one with 55K being pure sales. It has been out for three months now with no certification besides one in New Zealand. Yeah, she had a #1 single. Let Drake or Beyonce have a #1 single and do those numbers and there would be clowning and NO ONE would be saying they had a chokehold on anything.

Adding to the fact, "Flowers" is the biggest song Miley Cyrus has had in nearly a full decade. She definitely isn't Taylor Swift or Morgan Wallen status. It's rappers bigger than Miley Cyrus.
Flowers was the #1 song this year for 7 weeks. This is about both albums and songs.

These have been the songs that have hit #1 this year

All I Want For Christmas Is You
Anti-Hero
Flowers
Like Crazy from Jimin
Kill Bill
Last Night

That's the list

the only song that's been #1 longer than Flowers this year is Last Night

From album standpoint it's been Wallen, Swift and SZA.

SZA is easily bigger than Miley. I'm not seeing how Miley Cyrus has anything in a chokehold.

Again, the only song that's been bigger this year than Flowers has been that Morgan Wallen track.

If its about albums AND songs, Miley still has nothing in a chokehold as she isn't selling albums. SZA had a #1 song and an album that is performing far better than Miley's.

This is an argument about why hip-hop hasn't had a #1 in EITHER this year. Flowers was the reason why Kill Bill almost didn't go #1 itself.

If it was albums AND songs, then it's just Morgan Wallen.

Billboard reports that ice spice has the most top 5 songs this year. People picking and choosing stats and refusing to see the big picture

Everyone wants to listen to hit songs instead of quality rap albums. Mainstream is dead. I’m still listening to albums from the past few years and older albums.

It's for the best. These newer artists don't have enough material to make an album. But if they have one or two hot songs, that should be enough these days.

We need a Michael Jackson type in hip hop. Obviously, they won't match his talent, but someone that can match his mindset and try forcing rappers to step up their game and make quality projects. When MJ made Thriller, it was a response to albums that had a few good songs and the rest were just B-sides that nobody cared about. His thinking was, why not make an album where every song was so good, you would want to buy it if it was a single? Only certain artists can make quality projects that get people's attention, and they're not coming out every year.

Personally, I'm waiting for the next Nas album, whether it's KD4 or something brand new.

Pop Smoke dying left a huge void, same with Nipsey. Now the only thing that’s hot is thot rap. We’re gonna have to rely on some older acts to put out quality music.

Yeah, since 2018, we've lost about four potential stars? They could have been the ones leading the new generation, but now, we'll never know.

I don't think thot rap is going to last that long. Eventually, people will move on and you might see some female rappers come out as a direct response to it. As much as people don't like Nicki, there's a reason she was on top for so long. She could appeal to a variety of people. When she wanted to, she could make some good songs. Some of these female rappers don't have her talent or versatility.

The Ice Spice's and Meg's have a short shelf life, Cardi still hasn't dropped a second album yet either which was a long time ago. I'm not sure what the future holds with a new star.

man i keep seeing "#1 on billboard" in this thread and its like... who gives a fukk??

"#1 on Billboard" means it applies to the lowest common denominator of music fan. while i want artists i'm a fan of to be a success, i'm kind of proud that the shyt i like doesn't top the charts.

rock bands like nickelback and creed were "#1 on Billboard" at one point too, and thats some of the worst shyt ever laid to tape!

have some damn self respect, and quit caring what billboard and the masses think! :bustback:

if its dope, listen to it. period

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Record companies don’t want to pay to develop artists anymore. Especially, rap artists.

And rap artists are in it for the money. They can earn six figures doing shows and on social media without having to chart big.

Also, there’s no inspiration. No new artists are coming out that set trends or inspire other artists.

remember one hit wonders? you dont have to be a "star" to make a song everybody fukk wit. the rappers releasing music now aint making those kind of songs. the next rap number 1 will be from a "star" and it will probably sound familiar. if a rapper dont have millions of stans they need to make a really good song to get a hit.

This generation a complete music failure and its catching up.. smh

These nyggas wanna just smoke and wear nail polish now..

They let females take over rap.. pathetic

We gotta remember two of the major players for the current generation - X and Pop Smoke - were gunned down before they could truly blow up. Three if you count Juice Wrld.
