The radio just isn't meant for avid listeners of music anymore, its for people to play when they are driving home from work. Z100 Hot97 Power105.1 are all blending into the same shytty station its awful, I haven't listened in years. Just rock out to sports talk radio in the car or sirius. Radio is a dying industry anyway there are too many outlets to listen to music without listening to these pathetic advertisements for 60% of the time.

I remember the first weekend Power105.1 was on once or twice an hour they would play a "throwback" Gangstarr old Wu Tang etc... that lasted about 6 months.

Classic Hip Hop has become its own genre and needs its own stations like classic rock and classic r&b..

If its not getting ratings on Hot 97 they have no choice but to drop it..You can't explain how you're "keepin it hip hop" to advertizers..

Sorry to see it go....the problem with getting ratings during that hour is most people who grew up during that time are working or out of pocket during that time...we aint in our cars, houses, etc to listen in large numbers at noon.

I dont even fukk with Hot 97 or Power 105...AT ALL...but I loved getting a text from one of my boys telling me to turn on Old School at noon to hear what was goin on....or reading a thread on here from @Newark88 letting us know what was poppin so we could check it out

Fight for it then!!
U see it slipping...
Fight goddamn it...

Black people notoriously don't support the art they love and wonder why it's gone...

Yeah exactly...how many people old enough to rock with the "Old School at noon" are even near a radio at noon...after work, evening rush hour is perfect for that audience.

Ebro broke it down crazy on the Combat Jack show.

Radio stations play the same songs 100000x a day because the feedback they get indicates that is what their listeners want to hear. They literally watch how people tune in and out live. So if they put a Rihanna song on, and people stay tuned through the whole thing, and then they put a Raekwon song on and people tune out immediately, my nikka Raekwon is getting catapulted to the shrubbery. Because its not just the people at the station watching the listeners, its the Wall St guys and advertisers paying for them to be on the air. If they put some shyt on that scared people away, the check writers will hit them with the  Our airwaves and music are literally being pimped by some people who couldn't give two shyts about the culture.

Couple that with the fact that people like us are so disgusted and disillusioned with the radio (and have moved on to podcasts, satellite radio and our accumulated downloads), and are not represented in the listeners, shyt couldn't go any other way.

Exactly...People forget at the end of the day its a business. If old school at noon isnt paying the bills then theyll replace it with something that will.

Moving forward, it's nothing too much that can be done because like someone said, people don't listen to the radio like that anymore. 75% of radio listeners are either commuting from work and school during the week. Plus with other alternatives like satellite, pandora, spotify, itunes, youtube, blogs, etc listeners have more choices to listen to music on their own terms. Also the fairly new PPM system, that radio stations follow to get ratings, is statistically biased. To be specific, out of the tri state area (NY, NJ, CT) it only gets 25% of the listeners in that market to participate in tracking ratings. Let's be real, who do you know around your way that has a PPM meter to track ratings for Arbitron? Star touched on this before on his show. It is literally destroying black radio, especially in NY because the demographic thats using these meters are so finite, it gives stations far less room then ever before to take risks and have other speciality programs catered to our taste during the day time. PD'S and GM's can now see in live time when listeners are tuning in and out with the songs they play, through the meter. So all of that definitely plays apart.

Its crazy, I'm listening to that exact interview right now...

:ohhh:

From what he's explaining the growth of "the female fanbase" is what is killing mainstream hip hop...My girl and her friends are the only people that still listen to radio and all of the music caters to them.. It's relationships, fashion and disco rap...

And naturally most young men are gonna fall in line and follow whatever females are loving.. It's human nature...

It actually makes perfect sense now that I'm hearing him break it down..

After hearing him explain how their ratings, polling and adds works Drake has the potential to be the biggest star in the history of hip hop...

Naw, you dont get it

Basically it comes down to this

Hot 97 plays what the millions of regular listeners like, stay in business

Hot 97 plays Sean Price, for people who dont listen to them and are like 1/100th the # of regular listeners... they lose regular listeners, advertisers pull out, they go out of business or get bought out by an entity that will cater to the regular listeners anyway

Its business

You nikkas dont buy discs, you dont buy products, you dont listen to the radio, why should radio stations cater to dudes like us

To a large degree we did it to ourselves. Only way to get it back is to buy it back and control it. Personally I think there is a lot of opportunity. Hot97's online presence is :flabbynsick:; they could really step their money game up if they expanded online. Look how much love the Combat Jack show gets; w/cross promotion both parties could benefit.
