SOHH Class of 2006
Back in the 90s there were always old heads walking around, stuck in the 60s with that "This is real music here", They lamented what they had been, participated in and seen as it disappeared from the scene to be replaced with baggy jeans, profanity and an air of violence on tap should the need arise as the youth defined themselves their own way for their day.

They kept close to their old style, surrounded themselves with old friends and were generally shut off to anything else. Stuck on a loop of remembrance tinged with regret.

These people still exist in the current era. You know who they are now?

People posting up saying "No one cares about the 90s and this new ish is wack".

The game doesn't change, people just switch positions without even realizing...
Truth.

That's why they cycle through it so quickly.

'00s baby nostalgia gonna be like, "Aye, y'all 'member those three weeks we fukked wit' Trinidad James?"

Inaccurate comment

Trinidad james blew up in 2012

Majority of 00s babies were in elementary at that time, you meant 90s babies... just being a pedant but :yeshrug:

Class of 1984 here.

I was 15 in 1999. Being in high school during y2k and 9/11 was an interesting experience.

But yeah, the 90s was some unbelievably dope shyt.

The early 90s was kind of ass though...that layover from the late 80s.

By 1993 it was some other shyt completely.
Grunge and West Coast hip hop dominance was ass:usure:

Never.

The 90s was just THAT decade. The 2000s was terrible to me. 9/11. Reality TV :gag: Bush. Recession. the only thing that was good about it was the music and even that wasn't as good compared to the 90s.

In the 2000s I was just like "hip-hop is dead" I seriously went back and started listening to 90s hip-hop exclusively again starting in 2004-2005 cause I thought rap was just getting so bad with the south taking over and the ringtone rap and the snap muzik.

:francis:

No offense to any of my southern posters here,..but as a east coast/northeastern born cat I was not feeling rap after 2003 when Lil Jon took over the airwaves.

The olderI got I appreciated...but 2004-2007 was like seriously the dark ages of rap.

If it wasn't pretentious nerd rap...or I'm too good to listen to mainstream underground rappers with that lyrical spiritual miracle BS talking about "bringing real hip-hop back"...it was these "I'm not a rapper, I;'m a hustler" D boys turned rappers, 50 cent imitations rapping over bhangra, and these myspace era dudes trying to pass out their mixtapes in times squre on burned CD-rs.
What you feel about the 70s? I've been listening to (early) 70s soul borderline exclusively for the past three months

Yes it’s a 2000’s revival.

Nikkas wearing brands like Von Dutch, Chrome Hearts, Evisu, fitted baseball caps back in style.

A lot of rappers and singers are sampling 2000’s hip-hop and R&B.

2000’s black sitcoms are being added to Netflix.

Well, yeah. These things come in 20 year cycles:

  • In the 2000s, 80s culture was all the rage
  • In the 2010s, 90s culture was all the rage
  • In the 2020s, 2000s culture is probably gonna be all the rage
So on and so forth...
In the 90’s the 70’s was all the rage.

Snoop, Camp Lo, Ghostface all borrowed heavily from that era aesthetic.
