People who don't actually watch the spot shouldn't talk about it.

You're right OP, I'm fukking shocked that a pitcher whose main asset was his 100+ mph fastball is unable to throw as fast when he's 32. Wait, no I'm not.

That's like if you criticized a 32 year old running back for not being as fast as he was when he was in his mid-twenties. It's not "falling off" it's just the way those sports work. People don't just play 20+ years at peak condition. Not everyone's Nolan Ryan. Or Cal Ripken. Or Kareem.

"Man, that Olympic Sprinter really fell off" No. They're just built specifically to peak at around 28. They only really get one or two good Olympics out of them before their body's start to deteriorate.

"Giants fans it must be really hard watching..." Actually, as someone from the Bay, it was fukking amazing watching a team that hasn't won shyt in my, or my father's, lifetime go on to become one of the greatest dynasty's of the early 21st century and win 3 championships in 5 years.

Tim Lincecum went from 2.74 ERA at age 27 to 5.18 the very next year at age 28.

This isn't Pujols falling off in his mid-30s.
This is a MF who at TWENTY EIGHT was effectively finished as an elite pitcher.
And sure some of the peripherals suggest he wasn't as bad. But he never was able to correct it even in the slightest way possible for the next FOUR years.

your stars are but dust on my shoes
People bringing up Zito but his decline was actually happening gradually before the Giants desperately threw that 126mil at him. I remember a lot of people breaking down his numbers, and of course the biggest indicator was his velocity struggling as he got older.

Whatever happened to Darvish btw? Dude seemed phenomenal, but it's like he never recovered from surgery or something.

I remember reading an article in the midst of his prime that said his motion and release was so unnatural and violent that it would drastically shorten his career. They were spot on with that call. Still had an great, albeit short, career.

:what:What are you even talking about?

Tim Lincecum went from 4x all star and elite perennial Cy young candidate, to STRAIGHT ASS overnight at age 27.... and never recovered since... thats not normal. The fall-off was unusually drastic. You acting like he gradually faded away and is having his first bad year now at age 32. Quit stanning.

I think you're talking about Brian Wilson, the Giants closer. I don't even remember what happened to him. I think he just gradually declined.

He's done. Was the giants closer 3 years ago I think. Blew out his arm really early that season, like within the first 5 games. Had a third tommy john surgery (two in college I think). It was his contract year, he already had a lot of mileage so the giants were iffy to re-sign him if he was healthy anyways, the tommy john surgery just cemented it. Went to the dodgers the next season and was mediocre as a reliever.

Kurt Warner is like :manny:

Terrell Davis like :yeshrug:

Those are great comparisons, but in both cases you could at least say their short-term greatness was partially based on the systems.

Lincecum simply was the best pitcher in baseball, bar none.

And Warner and Davis both are in the Hall of Fame. People who know baseball better than me claim Lincecum might not get in.

Jack Morris aint in.

Jack Morris's peak couldn't touch Lincecum. He was a slightly above-average pitcher who was very durable for a great team. His wins were way inflated compared to his actual skill.

And he'll prolly still get in.

This has been your regular reminder that pitching requires repeating an extremely unnatural motion which puts violent stress on the throwers arm.

Pitchers. Get. Hurt.
:deadmanny: And they still getting $250,000,000/10-year contracts

he wasnt that great to begin with. he had like two great years with the Giants and was clutch in the only offs he been to. caught a surgery in 2012 and then his arm was done. caught feelings too.
