I could see 2028/2029 at $500 digital and $550 with the disc drive, same as the prices today. $600 is the cutoff price and I don't believe Sony wants a repeat of the ps3. I can also see the ps5 and ps5 pro being discontinued after the ps6 releases with the sole focus on the ps6 due to smaller components, since that is going to be able to play ps4 and ps5 games anyway, with continued support of the ps5 with cross gen games.

This way they cut costs by only concentrating on the ps6 instead of having to produce two consoles with the ps5 pro being redundant after the ps6 releases. Normally Sony continues production of the previous gen console until an eventual discontinuation a couple of years into the new gen. Yet with rising costs there could be a change of strategy. Sony knows they can't sell a $750 or above ps6 and do well.

Sony's strategy is getting as many people as possible on their consoles as quickly as possible. because they get a cut of everything each consumer buys on the playstation store combined with playstation plus. They're not doing that at $649, especially with this economy. The ps5 pro is sold at a profit so that's not an accurate representation of what the ps6 price will be. The are willing to subsidize since they are going to get a cut via software. The only way they continue their success next gen is not going above $550, $500 would be even better.

The ps6 will also use smaller components than the ps5, a deliberate choice to reduce costs. A $500 digital ps6 would do very well since a bunch of people buy digital nowadays and $550 would be for the people that still buy physical. $500 seems to be the cutoff price in general though. $550 is a test. Not $600 and above $500. Sony could of bumped the price to $600 and chose not to, because of what occurred with the ps3. They want to see how well that sells compared to the $500 digital ps5 to determine whether or not a $550 ps6 would sell well. That's why there are rumors of a delay because they don't want to price the ps6 too high and ruin their strategy.

Sony discontinuing both the ps5 and ps5 pro and concentrating on the ps6 sold at the the same price as the ps5 to cut costs would not be surprising. The ps6 will probably play ps4 and ps5 games so this wouldn't be detrimental. Sony wants previous gen playstation users on the ps6 and they have been trying to get those users off of there for a while now since have yet to buy a ps5 after almost six years. That's not happening at $649.

$600 PS3 was 20 years ago
Sony still talks about how that almost took out their business to this day. They bumped to $550 instead of $600 to see how well the ps5 sells at $550 to determine whether or not the ps6 would sell well at $550. They have reduced storage, changed components, and there are rumors of Sony bumping playstation plus prices to avoid bumping the price to $600.

that Kepler dude saying Helix and PS6 coming in 2027
Will be interesting to see what Sony decides to do with the ps6. All of their decisions since bumping the price to $550 has been avoiding $600. The ps5 is still going to be $550 next year. There could be a $50-100 price cut yet that seems unlikely. They can discontinue the ps5 pro yet they won't price the ps6 at the same price as the ps5 unless they also discontinue the ps5. They could do $600 or above however, their strategy is not going to be effective at that price point and they shouldn't be surprised either after what occurred with the ps3.
