Starting tomorrow, the PS5 is getting more expensive. In an announcement on the PlayStation blog, Sony has announced that the prices for all the different editions of the PS5 are increasing.

Here is the list of new prices:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

:leon:

I said 599 for the PS6. That might be out the window now. :lupe:

You ignored the $500 digital ps5. Unless Sony decides to not sell to the mass market, the ps6 will need to be $500 without a disc drive and $550 bundle with the disc drive.
The “mass market” is still playing on PS4.

Again. Yall gotta step into 2025.

“Yesterdays price is not today’s price…..”

Sony keeps telling yall that pursuing console sales above all else isn’t their strategy anyone.

People will be spending billions in the playstation ecosystems regardless of PS6 price.

They aren’t gonna throw money away trying to sell that system.

The new sony CEO vowed to fix this problem.

which is why the PS5 has been increasing in price.

They aren’t gonna tank their profits again trying to sell hardware.

It’s not worth it. They will sell hardware at a profit and put their games on everything.

That’s the new reality of the console gaming industry.

Microsoft is doing the same. They aren’t gonna sell their hardware at a loss either.

You're ignoring that the consoles need to sell well so they can subsidize with their services, especially with the release of exclusives exclusive to next generation. As I said, unless Sony decides to not appeal to mass market, the ps6 will need to sell at a price that the system can sell well at.

The consoles don’t need to sell like they did in the past, again, right now there’s more people playing “last gen” consoles than current gen.

Sony is no longer interested in losing potential money on games by holding them hostage on any individual piece of hardware.

As I said, unless Sony decides to not appeal to mass market, the ps6 will need to sell at a price that the system can sell well at.
The PS6 will not be a mass market product until 5-7 year into its life cycle.

Thats how this gen worked, and all available info points to that trend continuing into next gen.

Sony makes most of their money off Fortnight and COD. Those games still have not dropped last gen. They will support PS5 for at least the next 6-8 years.

Xbox is off the console wars treadmill

There’s really no economic benefit to sony sacrificing profit up front to put more PS6’s in homes early on. The gen will last long and people will upgrade as it makes sense to them.

That's not how this gen worked.:mjlol: You're not telling the truth. The ps5 is a mass market console. The ps6 will also be a mass market console and that console won't appeal to the mass market at $750 or beyond.

No new numbers yet, but PS5 users still had not eclipsed PS4 users this time last year.

The “mass market” is COD, GTA, Fortnight, Madden, 2K.

There’s still more of those people on last gen hardware than there are on PS5

Sony didn’t drop last gen until 2023.

There’s no reason to believe that trend will change course other than wishfull thinking

The ps6 will also be a mass market console and that console won't appeal to the mass market at $750 or beyond.

November 2028 seems to be when the ps6 will release based on previous rumors and the past pattern of the ps5 releasing 4 years after the ps4 pro. Yet, with these tariffs, that could be November 2029 or 2030 with rumors also saying November 2027. November 2027 was probably the plan but these tariffs and the current economic turmoil probably changed that. Based on rumors, the ps6 is cheaper to produce than the ps5 despite better specs. The ps6 will be delayed until Sony can release that system at a reasonable price, even with no competition suggesting the price won't be above $550 with a disc drive.

The current prices are a result of the tariffs and are also a test to determine whether or not to keep these prices after the tariffs are over or to return the previous prices because another price bump will destroy sales, especially for the ps5 pro. That's probably part of the reason why Sony is focused on improving PSSR early next year, because they know the ps5 pro will be around a while before being discontinued when the ps6 arrives. There could also be no ps6 pro next gen depending on the way the ps5 pro sells the rest of this gen. Apparently the ps5 pro is selling at a slower rate than the ps4 pro.

Let all be honest…if Ps6 dropped tomorrow and was 700 we’d all be trying to get one :yeshrug:
The ps6 would sell at the same or a worse rate than the ps5 pro and worse than the $600 ps3 at that price. The only way Sony sells at that price is them deciding to appeal to the niche crowd next gen, which probably won't occur since that's never been their strategy. The ps5 with the disc drive is $550 vs. $600 because Sony are afraid to sell a $600 base ps5. That's why when the ps6 releases will depend on when the tariffs are over, the economy, and the cost of production. Sony won't sell a ps6 at a price that won't sell well and will wait until the ps6 can be sold at a reasonable price. November 2027 is the rumored release time and will probably delayed to November 2028 or beyond because of what's occurring right now. According to rumors, the ps6 will be cheaper to produce than the ps5. The price will be the same as the 2 versions of the ps5 depending on the way the ps5 sells at those prices. With a sales rate that is too slow, the ps6 will be cheaper than those prices and Sony will cut the price of the ps5,
