read this earlier but let's be honest, there's a lot more 3-4 star guys than 5 stars. Wonder what the stats look like for the draft

60% of 5 stars get drafted while only 10% of 3 stars get drafted. there are just way more 3 stars each year s how you get so many 3 stars in the superbowl.

its sorta like asking why everyone starting in the superbowl ain't a 1st round pick. there just ain't many 1 rounders starting the superbowl cause more dudes get drafted in rounds 2-7 eventhough 1st round picks are far more likely to become starters/stars.

Its not that interesting. 5 star recruits are the most overrated, entitled athletes imo. And most are exposed in college.

there were 27 5 star prospects in 2010. 16 were drafted by 2014. 60% success rate. http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...96710/nfl-draft-recruits-five-stars-two-stars

only 20% of 4 stars.....10% of 3 stars......and 3% of 2 stars/unranked during that period got drafted.

recruiting like the draft is an inexact science HOWEVER, 5 star prospects are far more likely BY A HUGE MARGIN to become NFL players than anyone else.

depends. some years there are none like last year. or some years there are 3 like this season (Josh Rosen, Blake Barnett, Kyler Murray).

I mean these are unproven HS kids....you really think Kyler at 5'10 gonna 170lbs gonna dominate the nfl...dominating texas hs and the nfl are two different things...nikka he one good hit away from being knocked out for the year. Just ask money manziel :laughhh:

a lot of times the 5 star dudes are just guys who are physically developed for that age (or a year or two older, depending on how shady the parents are)

i'm surprised earl thomas wasn't one though. i read an SI article that said he was a stud in high school.

true. and alot of the 2-3 star guys that end up being NFL starters are dudes who end up gaining like 40-50 lbs in college while not losing any speed. this article provides good examples of this phenomenon. http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...96710/nfl-draft-recruits-five-stars-two-stars

all in all, we know how difficult it project guys going from college to the pros, imagine having to do that for high school to college.

the star ratings have nothing to do with the NFL draft. its about readiness to play in college. Tebow was a 5 star prospect eventhough everyone knew he couldn't throw.

I expect Kyler Murray to dominate college.

Would be more interesting/telling at the Pro Bowl. But still says a lot about the absurdity of recruiting rankings.

not really. some of you have unreal expectations. I guess you don't watch the 1st round of the NFL draft eventhough 50% of those dudes never pan out? the recruiting rankings may not align with NFL draft prospects perfectly but it does align nicely with the ability to win national titles. the last 3 national champs (Ohio State, Florida State, and Alabama) had consistent top 5 classes in the 4 years leading up to the national title.

read the story on Kahlil Mack here http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...96710/nfl-draft-recruits-five-stars-two-stars

it shows how future stars can fall thru the cracks when it comes to recruiting rankings. Kahlil Mack went to high school in Florida but was only considered a 2 star prospect because: (1) he suffered a devastating patella tendon injury that many thought would end his career; (2) his hs coaches didn't send film of him to colleges so no one even knew about him; and (3) he was only 215 lbs when he graduated. He ended up gaining 40 lbs in college while not losing any speed and coming back even better from that patella tendon tear.

thats how a NFL superstar can fall thru the cracks as a 2 star prospect.

I was going thru madden the other day and seeing most of the big time players in the league are from small colleges or non power colleges. Those players with the chip on their shoulders the size of the Golden Nugget in Vegas are the brothas that throw caution to the wind and play all out obviously feeling they have something to prove.

As a few have said, there are very few 5* recruits every season. Less than 1% are 5* level players.

With that said, 5* players are more likely to be drafted and drafted high than 3 and 4* players. The rankings aren't nearly as off as this stat would indicate.

There's not really a abundance of 5 star athletes out there in hs football. so it makes sense that there wouldn't be a ton of them in the nfl. Also there are going to be a ton of 3 star athletes who may not have reached their potential in hs and became better and equal to those five star players.

That's a great stat....Should open the eyes of kids that they still have to work. They probably have to work HARDER now. It's a lot easier surpassing someone than it is to stay on the top...

There's 2-3 starting QBs who were 5 stars. Newton, Stafford and probably Peyton Manning.

Theres not many of them per year but looking back at QB rankings is like a broken dreams graveyard.
