Thats the complicated thing, when turning countries from 0 it is debatable if that every 4 yrs debating what next stuff works vs laying out a 50-100 year plan. The issue though usually when you have these "benevolent dictators" rarely is society groomed for life post dictatorship once it is ready for democracy OR if the baton is to be handed off nobody is groomed, it is usually the dictator dies unexpectedly and people scramble for power.
It's impossible to have this convo as people will continue to force western biases.
For context I`m not promoting him I`m just saying Dictatorship is a complicated concept. Most Leaders of countries aren't that great thus it gets amplified in a dictatorship, but if you asked someone if their country is doing great and on a good trajectory would they care if the same president keeps things on that trajectory for 30 years, would they care? I'd argue most people will say no keep it up
It definitely is. It's not as black and white as we might think at first glance. We're basically taught growing up in the American school system to automatically demonize anyone that's labeled as a dictator. Democracy always good. Dictatorship always bad. After visiting Rwanda few years ago, it made me re-think all of that
It's incredible to see how far that country has come given the horrible atrocities that were happening there just 30 years ago. If you look at Kagame's history it's filled with stories of horrible things he's done. Plenty of blood on his hands. but at the end of the day he turned a war-torn ravaged country into a safe stable society. Extremely safe. nobody batting an eye at a 4 or 5 year old kid walking home from school alone. very business-friendly. one of the best on the continent. I know several black folks who have left America and moved there. He has a plan and vision on lifting up the people of the country.
It's clear that heavy handed dictatorship approach was very beneficial to get the country back on track. Democracy wouldn't have worked for a country like that coming out of war in such a fragile state at that time. But on the flip side, as nice as it is today, it's still a one party state with zero plans to transition to a new leader anytime soon. I'm just rambling at this point. but all that to say I don't see him as 'bad' or 'good'. It just is what it is
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Yall saying the guy who agreed to put whoever Trump wants in prison and playing along with not being able to release them is gonna be a good dictator?![]()
A left wing Dem gets nominated/electedGuaranteed.
No such thing as a good Dictator
