If GTA VI comes out and scores an 83, after GTA V had a 97, you wouldn't understand how that's a let down? The "drama" around Starfield was many fans of Bethesda's previous titles such as Skyrim and Fallout 3/NV were GOTY/Generation games and as such people were hoping Starfield would be that. It didn't deliver and so the drama came about. Skyrim and Fallout 3 are both above 90+ metacritic games and are regarded as some of the best games of the generation it came out in. So Starfield failed on that regards to meet expectations.

Is expectations a game developer fault or the fans? Why would anybody go into a new ip expecting fallout/skyrim? For one, we are talking scores/ratings which already is subjective to begin with, if GTA 6 comes out and scores a 83 how does that affect somebody who loves the game as a fan? It’s only on the internet where game scores matter not in real life.

This the issue with modern gaming journalism and why these scores are almost meaningless. Ratings are rarely consistent and when they are, reviewers grade on a scale.
