"No Way Out" is like the Eastcoast "Chronic" as far as a Producer/Rapper album. It was so successful and had so many damn hits. Honestly I don't see how it's not a Classic album off Impact alone. The production was TOP NOTCH. People hated on the whole commercial sound and the shinny suits but this album is better than a lot of albums that came after it, real talk. But Diddy is an average emcee. Sure he had some great ghostwriters including Biggie and Jadakiss but the fact remains his delivery on some songs was still average.

It's not better than "Life After Death" cause Biggie is the biggest reason "No Way Out" was a success. "Missing You" which was a Biggie Tribute drove the album. Sure "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" was a massive hit. "Benji's" was a massive Hit but featured Biggie. "Been Around the World" was a massive Hit featured Biggie and "Victory" went Gold Featured Biggie. Ma$e is also a huge reason it was successful. "Life After Death" was the stronger album cause Biggie was the stronger emcee. There are actually less weaker songs on LAD than NWO even though it's the longer album. Overall like I said amazing album and Diddy blew up something heavy with it. But it's not better than LAD. As far as Bad Boy in 97:

LAD >>>>>>> NWO >>>>>>>>>> Harlem World

Biggie >>>>>>>> Ma$e >>>>>>>> Diddy (As Emcees)

Outside of the singles my favorite album cuts were:

A lot of people don't know the story behind that. The album was originally titled "Hell up in Harlem" but because Biggie died Puffy felt that name to his album that wasn't right. So he went with "No Way Out". He was basically saying there was no way out of the pain of the loss of Biggie. But the song as you said ended up on the "Money Talks Soundtrack" so the title song didn't make the album.

Biggie did not write Lil Kim Verses for "Money Talks" at that point he was already dead and she was doing her own writing to my knowledge. It's sad cause Biggie was so close to working with Timbaland and Neptunes who did beats for Junior Mafia and Ma$e the same year Biggie died. Also even though "Benji's Remix" is considered the main one, it really was a remix. The original actually only had Ma$e and The Lox on it. It was originally a Lox song but Puffy put it on his album. Same with "Love You Baby" which was originally a Black Rob Song.

I remember that Mase verse on the benjis but it is a distant memory and I'm thinking of it more like a funk flex freestyle for some reason.

You have a link?

I see where you're coming from, but I think you are overrating NWO by calling it an East Coast Chronic or saying its classic.

It was a good album. It deserved the hate it got for Puff's rapping an the over the top commercial production. I haven't gone back to it in at least a decade. Maybe I'll give it a spin sometime soon.

Man! Youre taking me back right now. I remember Hell Up In Harlem being the original title. I even have a vague recollection of going to the record store on release date expecting to cop "Hell Up In Harlem" and not being sure what the hell "No Way Out" was? Am I making this up or was the title change super last minute?
