The problem is that people see the EU as some sort of totally disconnected entity that appeared out of nowhere, with "Europeans" working there...when actually the EU is something that comes from the member states, as does everyone who works for the EU, so when they criticize the EU, they're criticizing themselves in a sense...but there's this disconnect. When the media says "Brussels decided", it's more often than not approved (or downright demanded) by the majority of member states.

They had no choice. Its the differences that fukk Europe up every single time. So you create a overarching apparatus that unites the continent based off of currency, trade, travel etc etc to limit potential inter-european cultural disruptions that lead to larger conflicts i.e World fukking Wars

I think they just overreached really badly with the whole idea of the EU. They just wanted to form a "country" that could compete with America and in doing so, they subverted sovereign nations democracies. Cooperation in the EU is a great thing, especially given its history but the cultural and financial differences are too big of a burden to overcome in creating an "EU state", IMO.

Much of what they wanted to achieve- open travel and a unilateral trade agreement- did not need the EU to happen. Truthfully I am surprised the experiment made it this far.
