But Israel is more liberalized in terms of civil rights comparable to most european nations than any of their neighbors.

1948 may 14 Israel declared independence and the Britains wanted to hand over Palestine to the UN and leave occupation on that same day & the US defense dept agreed with handing it over to the UN.
We are talking about two different things.
You are talking about Jews simply living in disputed unnamed territory & I'm talking about the creation of the state of Israel which US State Dept at the time were going to deny recognition.
Truman fought with those that opposed recognition & won and the United States became the first country to recognize the state of Israel & it's independence as per Truman's promise to the future leader of Israel.
Truman had little education but was strong in history and Christianity & Judaism so his decision was very much a religious one.
