I think it was senior year of high school someone played leon Haywood "i wanna do soemthing freaky to you" and that's when it dawned on me that as much as g-funk was integral to my being, the producers weren't really doing shyt. I feel that way about 90's so so def and bad boy as well, all the samples from people like patrice rushen, SOS band, de barge, loose ends, diana Ross, etc...dudes being coined major producers literally lifting a whole track and laying some new drums on it :francis:

yup, and i've been up on my samples and shyt, but i think with more and more time and with age, the shyt stands out more and more

I knew the samples back then from my brother - he's a dj - i remember being in middle school and shyt and dude would literally annihilate songs for me by dropping the original...made my music collection so deep

Yup. People like Dre (especially) lifted whole basslines, grooves, themes, visuals, vocals and song structures from Parliament. It's mind blowing because it's not like Parliament came out 40 years before he touched it. It was more like 15 years and George Clinton was still very much active at that time.

It's bugged out because a lot of the GFunk shyt had tons of Parliament DNA running thru it but a dude like Quik took the whole funk thing in another direction to a point where you know a Quik joint when you hear it.

exactly, thank you!

i'm glad you came through in this thread too, bruh. because i know you know yo music and you'd get what i'm sayin'

shyt, the production work on parliament's mothership connection is still YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEARS ahead of music. this shyt came out in 1975 and still doesn't sound old at all! CLEAN AND CRISP as a muthafukka :ohlawd:

Yea my parents was OG's 60's-70's soul, funk, r&b, etc but they weren't into none if the white music from those eras  i used to listen to the old station too, 50's duwop, Motown, 80's freestyle, disco, etc. I got a huge wealth of knowledge of black music from the 50's up.

We got he same parents on the black side, Aretha is my mom's favorite too which says a lot because my mom is the biggest hater. It's rare for her to compliment an artist. Aretha is cool to me, but I'm more of a child of patti labelle and Chaka Kahn, i fukking love those two. And james brown is my dad's favorite, dude had like a 16 cassette box set of james brown, one of the first memories of my parents being dressed up for a date was them going to the james brown concert.

That's because like a DJ on his tables u gotta know where to listen to make space to flip a song... Any muthafukka can bang on a desk or wall all day and say "i make beats", but a real producer works just like a musician.. They know how to arrange shyt between the booth, drum machine and vocals to make u wanna go out and buy that music
