Nokia will reportedly unveil its Android phone later this month

Nokia is preparing to unveil its first Android phone later this month. The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia will unveil its "Normandy" phone at Mobile World Congress later this month. Citing sources familiar with Nokia’s plans, the WSJ reiterates previous reports from The Verge that Nokia’s first Android phone will use a modified "forked" version of Google’s operating system. The effort is similar to Amazon’s use of Android for its Kindle range of tablets, and Nokia is expected to integrate Microsoft services onto the device with a special application store for some existing Android apps.

Nokia has scheduled a press event later this month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, hinting only at "meet us under the tree." The Finnish smartphone-maker also recently teased an upcoming Windows Phone announcement, but The Vergeunderstands Nokia will not focus heavily on its future Windows Phone plans at Mobile World Congress. Instead, Nokia will reportedly detail its Android "Normandy" phone, which is expected to be named "Nokia X" once it starts shipping. With a lack of Google Play Store access on Nokia’s Android phone, the company may be forced to focus on any apps it has managed to successfully port to its forked version of Android.

Previous leaks have revealed that Nokia’s Android device includes a Windows Phone-like UI, and can run Android apps like Skype, Twitter, Vine, Facebook, and BBM. Photos of what appears to be a near-final unit of the "Normandy" Android phone have also appeared, showing a handset that looks similar to Nokia’s low-end Windows Phone devices. While Microsoft continues to target low-cost with Windows Phone, Nokia’s Android phone will also focus on this market with low-end specifications like just 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Nokia’s Mobile World Congress press event takes place on February 24th, and we’ll be there to bring you the latest on Normandy.

:scusthov: This phone sounds like it finna be HOT GARBAGE. Why the fukk would anybody want an Android device that's preloaded with Microsoft's inferior 1st-party apps, instead of Google's 1st-party apps & has NO Google Play Store.

I don't get it. If you like android but want the Microsoft presentation, why not just get an android phone and download a windows 7 theme? I can't think of a good reason at all for purchasing this phone.

Thats the thing, idk anybody that wants that, which is why this makes absolutely no sense. It'd automatically be twice as better if it just had Play access.

First off, Lumia's first party apps KILL andrioid/google apps of the same kind
Literally KILL
So if you wasn't aware of what they even offered, you not really qualified to make this thread.

2nd, the google play store is just googles store. Microsoft has its own store with everything you need
Now this is where you normally go full retard and claim what is... isn't true
So to kill all that, tell me what is it that you WISH the microsoft store had that google play does
Cuz I have all 3 phone types. Most of the stuff I hear you guys hyping up is already BUILT INTO LUMIA

But I wont' get into all that right now, I wanna know what it is you know. So I can be on your level of expertise

:snoop: Microsoft's app store obviously doesn't have Android apps, so it's irrelevant to this discussion. It's unanimous that Google has the best 1st-party apps.

I'm surprised some AOSP groups haven't ported Android ROMs for the Nokia Lumias. The Nokia Lumias all use Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs like most Android phones, so I don't see why not.

Windows phones have been shyt until last year pretty much
This "its unanimous" bullshyt you speak  how many people you think have ever used a Windows phone?
Exactly. That's why you're talking in generals here. You yourself couldn't say shyt on this issue
But here you are talkin that bullshyt to an actual Windows phone owner who would give the Lumia line 100% of my support if it wasn't for one issue
An issue you haven't mentioned cuz like I said, you don't know shyt about shyt you shytty piece of fukkin shyt
The bullshyt memory hoggin issue :damn:
I got 24gb of space total, but I'm struggling for space, can't download an app without having to erase another
I be making maaad tough decisions, and now when I look at it. I don't hardly have shyt on my phone
Something ain't right. I read that they double dip on the downloads like how the PS3 works :patrice:
Then every app/game wants to get updated on the daily, I think that is the real reason why I'm low on space
Could brotha @Hiphoplives4eva shed some light on this issue?

Lumias need twice the amount of free space than the app you want to download has. So if you're downloading a 800MB app, you need at least 1.6gigs of free space in order download it. This has been a nagging issue with Windows phone and hopefully will be addressed in the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update. This is rarely a problem for phones with greater than 16gigs, but those with 8 gig phones will have issues downloading the larger apps. I currently have a Nokia Lumia 1020 which has a lovely 41 megapixel camera. However, the drawback is that the phone only has 32 gigs of space, and photos taken with this camera average between 4-5MB each, due to the density of the resolution. Therefore, if i decide to go nuts one evening at a party i can take up nearly a gig in pics alone! Then it doesn't help that i have a ton of games on the thing, so space fills up quite fast. This was part of the reason i decided to cop the Nokia 1520 (expandable memory, full HD screen, huge battery, etc..) Honestly Windows Phone needs to embrace external sd cards more, as this would solve alot of the memory problems alot of phones faced. I actually just copped the Nokia 1520 for this very reason.

Android does have better apps you don't need a windows phone to know that. There's no Maps, Gmail or YouTube equivalent. YouTube may not be very important, but Maps and Gmail are essential and there's nothing close. And let's not even get into lack of third party apps

I will concur to this. I own a Lumia because I'm just a sucker for Nokia hardware but I was surprised with the high quality of Nokia's apps, Nokia Maps in particular. Nokia has done a far better job than Microsoft to fill the void in killer apps, which also goes to show which of these companies actually knows the phone business.

Anyway, with this phone it seems they're aiming at people sorta like myself who are sold on the hardware but not (necessarily/entirely) on the software. Not sure if this will bridge the gap (I doubt it personally) but we'll see.

Spoken like a true ignorant son of a bytch. Stick to threads on simping white women you fukking idiot, as smartphones are way out of your fukking league.

For those interested in facts, all windows phones come with FREE OFFLINE MAPS. You know the same mapping software used by nearly every major luxury car manufacturer around the world? And you can check your gmail on the native windows phone email software. I have 2 gmail accounts i manage with my windows phone. My god your an idiot. :snoop:

lol @ no maps. Here Maps(Nokia) is pretty damn straight. Its GOAT free GPS, and better than some of the more expensive paid ones. The mail is nothing to write home about, but there are youtube and gmail apps that work. Metrotube app>>>>>>>>> Youtube app. The app gap closes everyday.
