Haitians are more isolated than other west Indians

(They Into thier own thing)

But most west Indians (Jamaicans..Trinis...crucians..Bajan)

Know and listened to AMERICAN SOUL MUSIC ALOT

cause of the Soundsystems

For instance in Jamaica and other island soundsystems that I grew up with was playing old school STAX and MOTOWN songs

Such as STONE LOVE SOUND INTL. ... SOUL SUPREME.....GEMINI DISCO

TEC 9 outta the Virgin islands played alot of classic r&b and American rap

and even going back further to the 50s you had soundsystems like Tom the Sebastian (metromedia)...Duke Reid...Coxsone Sound playing Blues and R&b

So yes WE NON ADOS PEOPLE GREW UP ON CLASSIC SOUL....like EARTH WIND AND FIRE...TEDDY P......MAZE

We ARE BLACK TOO....WE HAVE RHYTHM

STOP THIS TRIBAL SHYT...YALL INTERNET NERDS ARE DELUSIONAL

THAT A.D.O.S SHYT AIN'T POPPING IN THESE STREETS

AS MAZE SAID ..WE ARE ONE

Yep I don't know any jamaicans and trini folks who don't listen to american R&B. shyt has a huge influence on them.

Its too early for this dense shyte in the morning :dead:

this may be one of the most pandering threads ive ever seen on here :dead::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::dead::dead::dead::why::mjtf::mjtf::unimpressed:

Reggae artists, hell Jamaican artists period have been doing covers and renditions of non-Jamaican music since like the 60's, on MIXTAPES ( actual cassettes :gucci:) even.

I REFUSE to believe the diaspora and black people is this disconnected from each other at this point in time

-Stevie wonder has been performing in Jamaica since the 70's

-Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye MADE music together
-my parents and various other island parents ONLY listen to old soul, blues and R&B

God Damn Japanese kids were watching the Temptations and other mo-town acts in the 70s live!

- The Jackson 5 had a WHOLE WEST INDIES TOUR :dead:

i cant with this site some times :dead::pachaha:

I think the language barrier has a lot to do with certain Afro ethnicities not having grown up listening to certain music. But not every culture is based around American culture it's condensending to assume and expect that everyone should know all the music we grew up listening to. I would not expect someone from Jamaica, Nigeria or wherever else to assume that I would be familiar with the music that was popular in their culture and household.

Last night me and my girls sipped some wine and was watching some old Katt Williams stand up and then watched kings of comedy(damn I miss Bernie mac)...

When Steve Harvey started playing Earth Wind and Fire and this Lenny Williams gem

We were all singing along except for my Haitian friend. She was like, “I don’t know this shyt. I didn’t grow up listening to it. I grew up listening to Haitian music” her mom played Haitian old school in her house.

Made me realize that there are probably many others like her that didn’t grow up listening to old school. She also said they didn’t grow up in her household talking about historic events in black
American history either.

For those of you on here that are African, Jamaican, Haitian, Dominican, etc, did y’all parents also not play ados old school?

*not to meant to be a divisive thread. I’m just genuinely curious.

I'm Jamaican
My mother played ADOS old school all the time
Barbeques, birthdays, etc. were all the same thing
Reggae w/ ADOS old school music mixed in was the go to

When I was a child my pops and mom would always play some The Jackson Five, Micheal Jackson (mom and Aunt loved Mike), James Brown, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Earth Wind And Fire, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Lionel Richie, Aretha Franklin, etc. Especially my pops who loved James Brown and would be singing some of his songs in our country while he takes a shower :russ::dame:
