I didn't know about that. But those were the Mussolini times, around the same time he was trying to conquer Ethiopia. Most nations have commited some kind of atrocity at some point but the Italians didn't really do much, specially when you compare them to the rest of western Europe.

No, I don't feel embarassed, I had nothing to do with it. But at the same time I also don't feel proud about the myriad of wonderful things white people have done for humanity. I had nothing to do with that either.

I see myself as an individual. My pride comes from my own acomplishments and my shame comes from my own shortcomings and failings. Hitler had nothing to do with me. King Leopold had nothing to do with me. But neither did Charles Darwin or Nikola Tesla.

My fam is Italian/Irish and both of those have a strong immigrant culture and have never owned colonies or really been involved in the slave trade. Well, Mussolini tried to colonize Ethiopia but he failed miserably.

I mean, obviously there are tons of racist Italians and racist Irishmen, which is not cool, but at least we don't have a big record of genocide and enslaving others...

Yeah, all the Irish that moved to the US were real fukking scum bags. That's why a lot of African Americans have Irish surnames to this day, cause their massa was an Irishman. But in Ireland they were simple peasants, most of them immigrating to other countries to find work. Ireland itself was colonized by the English. That's why they hated each other for so many years.

And yeah, the Italians took over Somalia and tried Ethiopia but that didn't last long.
