you could just not go inside in the 1st place. I've been to a few funerals where we check out who's inside and go right back out and talk for a while with folks we haven't seen in a while when there's a service going on, with everybody finally linking up at the cemetery, dinners or wherever the post burial gathering is.

Speaking of disrespect at funerals, I once went to the funeral of my homie's grandmother. She was Christian, but her daughter and their family are Muslims. The preacher threw subliminals at the wake. He was like "Most importantly let's not forget that _____ knew Jesus is the only way!" Then he repeated Jesus is the only way, emphasizing the word "only" several times with obvious intent. I don't care for Islam anymore than I do Christianity, but that was pretty fukked up and he did piss off her family at her funeral of all places.

There's nothing disrespectful about not choosing to close my eyes during a few seconds of prayer. If I purposely created a scene about it and shytted on their religion, that would be disrespectful. At the end of the day, I'm a grown man and I'm not going to pretend to submit to a superstitious ritual I don't believe in.

The way I see it, it's only disrespectful to force the issue and drive home a point of contention about it, purposely seeking conflict. If people choose to engage in a religious ritual in which I'm put in the precarious position of partaking in it or not, there's nothing wrong with no partaking in it because I had no choice in the existence of it.
