Whenever I watch those 70's NY street gang documentaries I feel uneasy about the Black-Puerto Rican alliances. It never really felt completely authentic, them Ricans always seemed like they would show some true colors.

My thoughts. Ricans latched on to our culture (hip-hop, graffiti, dance, etc.) heavy during the eras and black folks always looking for someone to love us, so...

No, on the real, it seems pretty complex and a lot of them Ricans have African blood and all that in 'em, so who knows.

In my experience Ricans were not at War with us or nothing. But not like we were "allies" per se as a group. To me though it was never a racial thing I grew up in a mixed neighborhood although my Pops side of the family lived in an all Black area so still exposed to the nikka mentality on the block. Ricans in mixed neighborhoods are a little uppity (but who isn't) meanwhile in the ghetto a lot of times they don't consider themselves different from Blacks, regardless of skin color.

In my H.S. there were racial cliques and I refused to be a part of that BS because I thought it was stupid. I'm like it's the year 2000 why the fukk I gotta limit who I am cool with based on skin color? Regardless, I had some PR chicks interested in me back then but I was more interested in DR women. But DR Women born in NYC were also on some "I'm not Black" bullshyt. Then bytch where you get that ass from, Germany? Some of them went as far to even say "Not interested in Black Men" they trying to bleach their skin and all kinds of dumb shyt . That Afro-Latino self hate shyt is for another discussion thread.

I mean some PRs I met are really cool both in NY and Philly and some are dirt bag mother fukkers just like other Blacks. I don't have anything particularly against them.

It's like a 50/50 relationship whereas with Mexicans it's probably 30% love 70% hate (on their part mostly). Mexicans hate us cause we got long dikks, height and don't do repetitive dances and have better music. They hate South Americans and Caribbeans in general for the same damn reasons though

Here a lot of Dominicans and Ricans don't like Haitians. And a lot of AAs here don't like Haitians too. But not all, I know I don't I'm actually currently learning creole. And back in school I had a few Haitian girls like me.
