This isn't 100% accurate. Nobody was splitting the spotlight like that on No Limit. Silkk and P were clearly at the forefront of that No Limit wave. Mia X was not in the spotlight in '98. She dropped like late November that year. Before that, her appearance on "Make Em Say Uhhh" and album cuts from No Limit is all we heard from her. Silkk and P were on singles from artists that weren't even on No Limit.

Mase was definitely a bigger deal than N.O.R.E in 1998:

Lookin At Me
24 Hrs. To Live
Been Around The World Remix

Three songs on Cam's album including the single. He was featured on "nikkas Done Started Somethin". Mase was still on fire. There is no logic in what you're saying. You don't have a 1997 as big as Mase's and then be dead a whole a month later. Mase didn't hit a wall until that Rug Rats joint. That killed his momentum. Before that dropped, Mase was definitely one of the hottest rappers in 1998. Anybody arguing that he wasn't is a liar.

X was hotter than N.O.R.E. Summer 1998. That was possibly X's peak. "How's It Goin Down" and "Ruff Ryders Anthem" were killing everything. There was even that joint with Jayo Felony. Lauryn was also bigger than N.O.R.E. "Lost Ones" and "Doo Wop" were killing that summer. Where were you at?

Not where I was at. Philly & college close to Pgh. No one was bumpin Mase in '98. Horse and Carriage video story had dudes already not effin with him, and then they dropped the remix video clownin him. That was all '98. He definitely was no longer on fire. Hell, Lox took his shine, and Kiss was getting all of his love. X was on fire in the Spring. The Summer you heard Nore more than X. How's it Goin Down is nowhere near Ruff Ryders Anthem or Superthug. He also had NORE spinning, and Banned from TV all over the mixtapes. And all summer, people were playing Nore's album more.

No Limit, Mia X's verse had people anticipating her album...and the album cover in the back of the Source... and saying she was possibly the best No Limit Soldier. Mystikal was already buzzin, AND Sillk's biggest song had Mystikal on it. Every guest appearance that had Silkk also had P. Those dudes came as a packaged deal...so, by that, they were splitting time. Silkk was solo on the Mya rap version of Movin On, that barely got any play...that she redid with Nore & Rae...and got a video. Silkk never reached Nore heights.

I just looked at the guest appearances for Nore in '98. His total trumps X. And Superthug reached #1 in Rap, while Ruff Ryders Anthem didn't....so once again, Nore was on fire that Summer. Of course...his run only lasted a few months, before he because just another once popular rapper

It's a toss up, summer 98' you really can't argue there was a hotter rapper than Nore with the exception of X and Jay. He was still buzzing off the CNN War Report album which was a classic from the summer before plus his guest spot on Pun's album with You Came Up. Then he dropped 3 blazing singles and videos with NORE, Banned from TV and Superthug.

But I mean, X had two multi platinum albums that year literally 6 months apart and then that fall Jay came with Vol.2 and the Hard knock life craze.

Do you put Pun up there too? Capital Punishment was still in heavy rotation summer 98'......Still Not a Player was my summer anthem that year.

He might've felt that way from like August until the close of 1998. That's on the strength of his own "Banned From TV" and "Superthug". Then there was his feature on Pun's "You Came Up". Still wasn't the hottest though.

Came in to post this exact quote, I was in high school and super thug was undeniable for that month of the year

I’ve never seen a rappers hometown so split on someone. Some New York cats look at nore as a top tier mc at his time with cnn til the super thug era and also say he was respected in the streets and put in work in his younger days. Other New Yorkers say he was a wack ass hatin ass nikka that prodigy been tryna tell us about. For the record I personally felt Capone went harder than nore on a lot of cnn cuts and features…as far as his street rep? I’m not sure which side I believe but a lot of people say he was thoro despite capones iffy rep as a possible snitch.
