Norv Turner has agreed to become the Minnesota Vikings' next offensive coordinator, a league source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The move had been widely anticipated.

The well-traveled Turner served as offensive coordinator with Cleveland for one season, following six seasons as the San Diego Chargers' head coach.

Turner inherits a Vikings offense that ranked 13th overall, but just 23rd in passing.

Turner, 61, joins new head coach Mike Zimmer, who the Vikings hired from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bill Musgrave had been Minnesota's offensive coordinator the last three years under former head coach Leslie Frazier, but whether Musgrave's fault or not, quarterback Christian Ponder failed to develop into a trustworthy starter.

The Vikings are still searching for a long-term solution at this critical position, though with running back Adrian Peterson, wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and others there's plenty of skill-position talent to be harnessed here.

The Vikings have the eighth pick in the draft this year, and quarterback will be high on their list.
