I’m not watching the entire thing so maybe he touches on this. Does the problem of SUVs/Trucks from an environmental standpoint change when we become more EV friendly?
He doesn’t touch on this specifically — not from the EV standpoint because the main focus is on how dangerous and impractical larger vehicles are.

Though he does touch on how larger vehicles require bigger and heavier batteries. So even if you have an electric SUV, it’s still going to retain all the other dangers, aside from emissions.

Gotcha. I’ll be honest I’m guilty :yeshrug:

I got a RAM Truck that I don’t need, but I wanted it and knew it would depreciate a lot less than a similarly priced luxury sedan. Also I like sitting up higher :yeshrug:. I like the idea of being able to take it off-roading and being able to carry things like dirt bikes.

I mostly work from home and when my wife and I do go out we use an EV sedan.

This video got me thinking though. In a perfect world I told my wife I’d pay off the truck and we’d use it on a need basis and my primary vehicle would be a sedan. But maybe I switch out the truck somewhere in the near future and when the opportunity arises opt for a large vehicle that’s much cheaper for those one off scenarios

Alright so there is some unfairness going on here.

1. We have to stop acting like everyone who has an SUV or truck is a piece of shyt who doesn’t care about the dangers and the environment. That’s just not true. But there is a good chunk of people on the cycling/fewer cars movement who actually do label drivers that way. And they do more harm because it just alienates people to the broader message.

2. There is a bit of clickbait here. NJB literally has “Ban Them” in his screen cap. Even though he’s not completely against SUVs and Trucks and says so near the end of the video. Clearly these vehicles have a place in society for certain things.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong if you and your wife want a truck. Whatever. I would agree that people should have the freedom to get whatever. But I also think the dangers should be considered too. And there’s a lot behind the scenes that has manipulated or guided people into getting cars they otherwise wouldn’t get.

I had no idea about SUVs being exempt from certain regulations and how that made them more profitable for car makers. To some degree they were pushed onto the consumer.

What I hope the takeaway from the video is: most people don’t need these cars. They are dangerous. And they have a big impact on how we get around and design the places we live in.

Never heard of this channel before. He might wanna make sure that his bike chain is properly oiled and his tires are properly inflated if you know what I mean :demonic: It'd be a real shame if... you know... his kickstand went missing :demonic:

City people who live in 500ft closets want to cry about pickups and SUVs :mjlol:

foh, in the rest of the world where we have enough space to stretch our legs out when we watch TV we need big vehicles. This is a shock to city folk, but pickups are damned useful if you live in the country or you have an actual laborers job.

The Ford F-150 was the #1 selling car in America last year.
There aren't that many rural farmers and construction workers, breh.

Clearly you did not watch the video.
