Lupe in his day wasn't too far off from Kendrick tier stardom, but the more abstract & artsy fartsy your music gets, the more you sacrifice that commercial flare. Kendrick has sorta experienced this with TPAB.

He isn't the "best" rapper, but he is definately the "best" mainstream rapper. The problem with that is, that isn't saying much in this day and age.

Talent level is at an ALL TIME low in hip hop, that is why a lot of people dont even take hip hop serious.

Then after him, he opened doors for more talented Lyrical rappers to be heavily exposed to the commercial side of the game. Big companies realized again that you can put money into this type of music

Not really. Kendrick's only power is the push he receives.
He can drop a shytty song that doesnt resonate with the people but his team will still get him on award shows to perform it.


Kendrick was the only rapper to perform,

It creates the illusion that he's a big deal,despite most signs showing he's not a big deal at all.
You go to youtube and his song will have very limited views vs other competition ,yet it will be touted as a big deal
