When you introduce a new era, you need a mediocre talent to set the stage, to usher it in

Kendrick is like the Jackie Robinson in the Major leagues. We knew he wasn't the best, but he's the reason black people are in the league now. He's easily digestible to the public, and especially to suburban cacs

Before Kendrick, lyricism was at the basement as far as commercial Hip Hop. Soulja Boy, Laffy Taffy, Ying Yang Twins, Jim Jones, etc etc :francis:. The bar was so low with lyricism, when Kendrick came around, he was thought of as the 2nd coming. He introduced bars to a new generation

Then after him, he opened doors for more talented Lyrical rappers to be heavily exposed to the commercial side of the game. Big companies realized again that you can put money into this type of music

Kendrick reminds me alot of this nikka

Now cause of Kendrick we got lyrical rappers getting shine. Like SchoolBoy Q, Freddie Gibbs, Lupe, King Los, LeCrae, Dave East, Game, Big Krit, Vince Staples, Meek Mill Earl the Sweatshirt, Nipsey Hussle, etc etc :blessed:

Thanks Kwame Jr :mjcry:

Jackie Robinson has an MVP Award, championships, gold gloves, All-Star appearances and is a lifetime .311 hitter.

Why are we grouping Jim Jones with Soulja Boy and the Ying Yang Twins? Jim has verses that shyt on a lot of nikkas best shyt.

Wale, Drake, Cole, Lupe and several others were regarded as lyricists before Kendrick was really known. The new school of MC's coming circa '09 was thought of as bringing back lyricism.

Thread is :jbhmm:

No.

when Lupe made his debut Kendrick was signed to Def Jam

FACTS
The main point is he had no mainstream relevancy at that point in time.

And technically he was still in high school when he got signed.

This comment proves you might lack reading comprehension skills :patrice:

You practically said so though:

Not even close to what I said. I said Kendrick's easy to digest style put lyrical rap in the forefront, and now other lyrical rappers could shine (Like Gibbs, Game, King Los, etc etc) because of Kendrick's contributions

Half the people on your lyricism resurgence list were on before Kendrick, and the other half aren't big enough for me to say Kendrick made lyricism a path of relevance and profitability for rappers after him.
