This being considered and since we're factoring The Dream into all of this, does Tim Duncan qualify for this conversation at all or nah? :patrice:

Technically, he wasn't born in the big 50, though he's a citizen.
I was going to say Duncan since he was born in the Virgin Isles but he learned all his bball in the states i believe. he was strictly a swimmer down in the VI

Gotta set rules for the conversation.

Internationally drafted player? Do you have to be drafted from another country, or can you play college basketball?

International roots is Dream then Duncan.

Players from overseas is Dirk and Sabonis.

My favorite (nobody asked) is Drazen. Then prolly the homie Serge. And Catchin Thabeets.

watching that Sabonis video got me light weight hot right now.. Russia robbed of us of a potential GOAT

but we can only go off what we seen in the NBA since thats what the discussion is about. Dream is better overall, but Dirk will still go down as one of the best players of all time and nothing wrong with that :yeshrug:

Dirk is incredible, but Hakeem was top 10 in every statistical category during his prime. Bottom line is if there was no Hakeem, there is no Dirk. Folks gotta remember that the '84 draft is why we even talk about basketball the way we do. That was Stern's first year and his #1 priority was to make the NBA a global game and Hakeem being the first player drafted in the Stern era put in motion what we see today.

Oh, and by the way, we can't question whether Dirk has surpassed Dream when Dirk ain't even that much better than Ewing, lol. Ewing still from the Bahamas right?

If it's just foreign born, it has to go to Hakeem. But if you're talking about players who stayed away from the NCAA and developed completely overseas without any American influence, then people tend to look at the Euro players.

Hakeem - Nigeria
Patrick Ewing - Jamaica

Both wound up later representing the USA in international basketball though.

Because Manu plays in a reduced role because that's what he's best suited for....He's definitely clutch, but has been a 3rd option most of his career

Except for when he plays for his country and leads them to a gold medal...wasn't a 3rd option then...

Or during any of the times he won the Italian league and/or Euroleague championships

Dirk ever take Germany to any championships? The answer is no...

Somehow this thread is about Dirk being the greatest international player ever...yet he doesn't have 1 championship in international play?

No. Dream played both sides of the court

Yes Dream was the truth. He was a perfect combo of skill and power. No big man has ever played like him and like someone mentioned Dirk stole that shot from him. Wish dirk stole his handles and willingness to play in the paint. Dirk might have won a few more championships.

But oh we'll Hakeem is the truth and the best big man I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching the NBA.

Unselfish, owner willing to pay, and no state tax. Why haven't any players in their prime chose to come play with dirk:sas2:? The best player to come play with dirk in his prime willingly has been parsons :pachaha:

shyt you play with Dirk you gonna have to do all the heavy lifting. Create shots for yourself and him. Play defense as he is allowed to guard the weakest front court player and get all the heat from the Dallas media when the team fails. fukk that shyt.

Crazy thing is that the Dallas media had a vote who was the greatest Dallas athlete and Dirk and Troy Aikman came in 1 and 2. I was like wow this fukking city is a joke..........how the fukk emmit isn't number 1.
